Top sci fi shows and series for 2012

Updated on October 6, 2012

I'm a fan of sci fi show and I'm on constant watch for new TV series. That's why I created this list of top sci fi shows for 2012.

Alcatraz is the famous prison where they held the most dangerous criminals. In 1963, all the prisoners disapeared along with the guards. Government reports to the public are saying prison has closed of unsafe conditions... Only that's not what happened.

Prisoners are returning to present time, not knowing what happened to them. Young SPFD detective Rebecca Madsen (Sarah Jones) is working on a case involving one of the former prisoners. Federal agent Emmerson Hauser (Sam Neil) employ her to secret agency tasked with re-capturing 1963s. Detective Madsen also recruits Dr. Diego Soto (Jorge Garcia), an expert on Alcatraz and comic book store owner.

You will like this series if you liked:

  • CSI
  • Fringe
  • Lost

The Fades

The Fades is sci-fi show from BBC. First season was broadcasted in 2011.

A teenage boy Paul with strange dreams begins to see spirits of the dead, called the Fades, that are otherwise invisible to normal human beings. Paul learns he is an Angelic, human with special powers, yet unknown to him. When vengeful Fade finds a way back from spirit to human world, it's up to Paul to stop him.

You will like The Fades if you liked:

  • Being human
  • Lost girl

TV series Grimm began in October 2011 and continues in 2012. It fairly good show for those loving fairy tales and science fiction.

Story is happening in present time, and is built around main character Nick Burkhardt, a Portland detective. Nick has strange visions of hideous monsters, which are later explained by his aunt. He is Grimm, keeper of balance between mythological and human world.

You will like Grimm if you enjoyed:

  • Supernatural
  • Lost Girl

Once upon a time

This series centers on young woman Ema Swan, that comes to small town of Maine. Maine is a place where fairytales might be real, and townsfolk are characters from stories, only they forgot that.

This series might actually belong more in fantasy genre than it does in sci-fi, but I mentioned it here anyway, because it is quite good. Curently season 2 is already rolling out in automn 2012.

You will like it if you enjoyed fairytales in your childhood and series:

  • Grimm

Continuum is brand new science fiction series aired on May 27, 2012. Main story revolves around detective and group of rebels from year 2077, that landed in year 2012 with help of time travel.

Continuum series offer good story that evolves from one episode to another. I can't get rid of comparison with Alcatraz, as they are somehow alike with time misplacement.

You will like Continuum if you enjoyed:

  • Alcatraz

Great post! thanks for srinahg. The only thing I think you're missing is a reminder of consideration of implementing accessibility standards (for visually impaired etc.) this is especially necessary in public sector organizations, who must adhere to specifics legislated in the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.

Thanks Victoria! I'm glad to hear that I hit the mark. You're right though that acsctsibiliey is an important issue especially in light of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA). It's especially critical for the public sector (and even I understand for organizations that are funded through the public sector) but it's an important consideration for any website and is best practice to consider it a part of the foundational portion of the website.

Wanted to get into Grimm, but just havent been able to. It's good enough, but doesn't excite me like other sci fi shows have.

Will try the other two, ta!

      Voted up and useful
