Bynes is the youngest of the three children of Lynn, a dental assistant and office manager, and Rick Bynes, a dentist.

Bynes showed keen interest in acting since her childhood. Her acting debut was in 1996 on Television series "All That" (1994). In 1999 at the age of 13, Amanda was given her own variety show, "The Amanda Show". In 2002, she starred in the TV series, “What I Like About You”.
