Trans-Siberian Orchestra Christmas Concert
TSO:A joy to watch in concert
A music concert is a wonderful opportunity to see the band you follow and enjoy listening to up close and in person. We all enjoy seeing our favorite band performing live since it is a special treat and it is a rare occurrence. My most favorite time of the year is Christmastime and a band I have been following since my son was born in December 1998 is Trans-Siberian Orchestra. To me Trans-Siberian Orchestra is a band that is fun to watch and listen to because they intertwine a beautiful Christmas story with emotional and heartfelt words by their storyteller with the most amazing Christmas music that has an edge to it which makes the experience unique and enjoyable.
My earliest recollection of listening to Trans-Siberian Orchestra was driving back and forth to Mercy Hospital where my wife and new born son were staying in the aftermath of his birth. My wife and I were delighted and she was also relieved and exhausted. It was a very special time and the music I was listening to on my cd player was from their cd Christmas Eve and other stories which was very powerful and the combination of the joy I felt in my heart of our son's birth and their beautiful and inspiring music playing made it a special moment for me forever etched in time. Every-time I hear their music it brings me back to that glorious day.
To this day I am a very proud father and a devoted fan of TSO and as the anniversary of our son's birth draws closer and the Christmas season is once again upon us I look forward to playing their Christmas music and reliving that special day in my life again with fondness and with the same joy I felt when I saw my wife cradling our son in her arms for the very first time. When I first learned of their Christmas tour I had to get tickets to see them live and the first year I saw them perform in concert was in December 2008 with my son. It was a very memorable concert and I was very happy spending the evening with my son watching them perform as we both delighted in their beautiful and spiritual music and I remember feeling a special bond with my son that night as I heard the same songs I was playing on my cd player 10 years earlier when I became a dad for the first time. I clenched my son's hand and felt the emotion and joy as I listened and could feel the tears stream down my face as I heard An angel came down, Christmas Eve in Sarajevo and so many other wonderful songs they performed that night from that very same cd I listened to on December 8, 1998, our son's birth date.
Every year we now make arrangements to see TSO perform their Christmas tour concert and we are always amazed as they are always spectacular and perform with such energy and emotion. I am convinced that they are the best show to see and you will easily become a fan of theirs from the very first song they perform. In 2009 I brought my son and niece to see them perform at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, New York and we all had a wonderful time watching them as we enjoyed their storytelling and the music that seems to touch everyone who sees them. After that performance I promised my son we would see them every year.
In 2010 when I saw the date they scheduled for Nassau Coliseum, December 17, I knew we would be there once again and this time I bought 4 tickets hoping to take my wife, son and niece. When my wife said she would go with us I was so happy as I was hoping we all would see them together. I told my wife that she would really enjoy them and I knew Matty and Kathryn would since they did the previous year. We arrived into the first 15 minutes of the show and they were in the middle of their first song. As we sat in our seats we were immediately drawn to them and I went into my own world as I looked on in total amazement as Matty sat between my wife and I and Kathryn sat to Maria's right. I just am in awe as I see them perform and if I was a kid again I would aspire to be a musician like they are. They are captivating and their music is a real joy to listen to and their show is a delight to watch.
We all expect to be entertained when we go to see a concert and to experience great music and spectacular stage performances. As I was watching TSO perform last night I was simply amazed as I was transported into a magical world as their narrator Bryan Hicks weaved a wonderful Christmas story as the band members sang and performed tremendous songs from all three of their Christmas albums and some songs from their Night Castle and Beethoven Last Night albums. I can not think of a band that compares to TSO as they are in a league all their own. Another band that performs wonderful Christmas music and is well respected and has a following is Mannheim Steamroller but they do not come close to what TSO does on the stage.
To experience a TSO concert you will find a real connection with the band and you will become a fan for life as they just have a wonderful stage presence and they put everything on the line when they perform and their shows are exhilarating and very memorable. They are also accompanied by an orchestra that adds to the magic of their performances. As the show goes on it is one amazing song after another and you can't help but appreciate their hard work and their talents as you watch in total amazement and awe of how far they push themselves to entertain the crowds who come to see them year after year. I know I will be there cheering them with my family as we celebrate the Christmas holiday seeing our favorite band Trans-Siberian Orchestra (TSO). They are definitely worth the wait to see and our Christmas tradition now includes seeing TSO perform in concert during their Christmas tour.
The members of TSO have impressive backgrounds and all are very talented musicians. The main musicians who started the band back in 1993 are original band members from the band Savatage who performed Christmas Eve in Sarajevo 12/24 which became one of the featured songs on their first album as TSO, Christmas Eve and other stories and became a hugh success. The founder of the band is Producer Paul O'Neill who brought other band members Jon Oliva, Al Pitreli and Robert Kinkel all from Savatage together to form TSO.
To do the shows TSO does there are several members of the band on stage and there are many people behind the scenes including the sound engineer and the lighting crew who make it happen as well. They all work great together and it is pure magic watching them all perform in unison. Some of the other members of the band are guitarists Chris Caffery, Joel Hoekstra, Angus Clark; Bass guitarist Johnny Lee Middleton; Drummer Jeff Plate; Vocalists Tim Hockenberry, James Lewis, Jason Wooten, Georgia Napolitano, Erika Jerry, Jay Pierce, Kayla Reeves and Natalya Piette among many others who all play an important role with the band and contribute to the magic. They also have the band created to share members so they can perform on both the east and west coast at the same time. If you wish to see a great show at Christmastime with hard rock and classical Christmas music and a spectacular stage performance with incredible narration and extremely talented musicians and vocalists then you should plan to see TSO and you will be amazed and entertained and be cheering as a fan year after year.
