UFC 118 Edgar Vs. Penn 2 - Live in Boston August 28th
August 28th 2010
This is the day where the UFC will be bringing its entourage to Boston for the first time in its history! The fight card is stacked and I am so excited that they will be in my own backyard this summer at the Banknorth Garden!
The Garden card will play host to a slew of local fighters. In addition to Kenny Florian, East Bridgewater’s Joe Lauzon, Milford’s Jorge Rivera and Maine native Marcus Davis will be in action.
You can also order tickets here for the event! Don't miss out on UFC history in Boston!
Edgar Vs. Penn 2
Although I am very excited to see these two face off against each other once again, there is a bit of controversy in the Mixed Martial Arts world. That controversy being that Penn gets a rematch so soon after being defeated by Edgar (April 10th of this year)
The reason for some people's disapproval is because the lightweight division is so stacked with awesome fighters, MMA and UFC fans were hoping to see some of the other top contenders in the weight class get a shot at the belt.
Here are a couple of other lightweights that were considered, and could have possibly been Edgar's next fight in lieu of Penn:
Clay Guida (26-11) - Clay Guida always puts on an incredible
fight. He sets a blistering pace, and has as much heart as anyone in the
UFC.No to mention he is a total bad ass.
Reason for not having the Title Fight: He will be fighting @ UFC 117 against the talented Rafeal dos Anjos. Guida has lost 2 of his last 3 fights (Ken Florian, Diego Sanchez) which wasn't too much of a setback because they are amongst the top in the division. Hopefully Guida will get a Title shot soon.
Roger Huerta - Huerta has been in some incredibly memorable fights in the past few years. He is still young, talented and extremely dangerous. In my opinion, he would have been the one to fight Edgar @ UFC 118 if.......
Reason for not having the Title Fight: Because he isn't in the UFC anymore! He went over to another mixed martial arts outfit! Hopefully he will be back soon. (Please)
Rematch for BJ Penn against Frankie Edgar
Do think Edgar will fend off Penn a second time to retain his Lightweight belt?

Dana White on the Couture Toney Fight
Randy "The Natural" Couture will fight Boxing Heavyweight James "Lights Out" Toney in the co-main event.
Well folks, this one is going to very tricky to try and predict for a couple of reasons.
Reason number one:
Since this fight will be a catch *weight fight, no one really knows exactly how they each of these fighters are to be for the match. Since they are not fighting like heavy weight or heavyweight, Toney could be 250 lbs. and Couture 205lb. I have no idea what's going to go on! Both fighters have earned championship belts in multiple weight classes. James Toney is a boxer, while Randy Couture is a natural born wrestler turned mixed martial artist.
Catch Weight - Is the weight of a fighter that doesn't fall into a normal weight class category. It is okay to fight like this as long as the weights are agreed upon by both fighters themselves, their trainers and the fight commission.
The style of these two fighters are very, very different. James Toney has very heavy hands (he hits hard) as you would expect from a heavyweight boxer. While Randy Couture can very easily take Toney down to the ground and beat him that way with his superb wrestling skill. That is why this sport is called a "mixed martial arts combat" sport. That is what gets people so excited to watch. There is a type of fighter for every fight fan on the planet, whether it's boxing, judo, jujitsu, wrestling, Mui Thai kick boxing, freestyle etc. There is a style you will enjoy watching, if not all of them.
I am going to have to go with Couture in this fight. He has a chain of granite, and has taken many heavy blows without getting knocked out in his Mixed Martial Arts career. He has many more tools to beat Toney with. Good striking, Olympic caliber wrestling, and incredible endurance.
My prediction is a submission by Couture in the first round.
What are your thoughts on James Toney (a Heavyweight Boxer) stepping into the octagon against a seasoned Mixed Martial artist and 2x Champion Randy "The Natural" Couture?
