Short and Underrated Netflix TV Shows
After all this time of using Netflix, I have noticed that only a few shows surface and are marketed well enough, or in other words, pushed in your face. However, I have luckily found some of these amazing shows through other social networks. They are all under 3 seasons, easy to binge, with characters you will love and stories you will remember.
This is a show I do not even remember how I found out about. I had it written down in my list of shows I wanted to watch, and one day out of nowhere, I decided to watch it and I couldn't be happier. Produced by the amazing Ryan Murphy, it follows Payton, an ambitious student, ready to do anything to become the student body president of his high school. However his main goal is to one day become the President of the United States. He is ready to do anything. From the characters, the unexpected twists from the first episode to the last, it is extremely fun, intense, well-crafted, well-written and amazingly acted. It is worth the watch, both seasons will manage to make you laugh, cry and everything in between. Now, all that I am hoping is that we will get a third one sometime in the future. Its cast consists of Ben Platt, Zoey Deutch, Lucy Boynton, Gwyneth Paltrow...
This is a show that I would put up next to Breaking Bad, meaning it is that good. Following a similar premise, it is about Marty Byrde, a financial planner, trying to save his life and his family's lives by laundering money for a Mexican drug cartel, by relocating his family in the Ozarks. It is definitely one of the better shows on Netflix. The characters are all so complex and well developed through the three current seasons (the 4th is still in the making), the writing so well-done, the suspense and intensity is immense. You will be on the edge of your seat the whole time watching it. Personally, I think the first season, although it was amazing, was the slowest, the second was the best and the third was extremely good too. All in all, it is a TV show worth seeing at least once. Its cast includes Jason Bateman, Laura Linney, Julia Garner, Janet McTeer...
Produced by Ryan Murphy, comes another masterpiece I did not expect to love this much. In its 7 episodes, it manages to explain the stories of aspiring Hollywood stars in the 50's, who are willing to try anything to make it big in the industry. It is diverse, with some amazing actors, amazing script and exquisite story. I loved seeing the process of making a movie in those times. It was all in all, something unexpected, but also extremely touching and inspiring. It motivated me to pursue a career in film directing and to not give up. A limited series one could get through in a day and not even notice it. Its cast consists of: David Corenswet, Jim Parsons, Samara Weaving, Darren Criss...
I never imagined myself to ever write about a German TV show, a language I barely even know a few words of, but here we are. It was definitely one of the best, most mind-twisting shows I have ever seen. Although people do not like to compare it to Stranger Things, I would still say these two are quite similar: from the story-line, both of them follow a boy in a small town who has gone missing, to their aesthetics being quite similar and the fact that they both mostly involve around four families and how their stories are intertwined. Dark is however far darker and more complex than Stranger Things. I would not want to go too much in detail since I could spoil it, everyone should go into it not knowing much, that way it can be experienced at its fullest. However I must say, it is not a show to have in the background, it requires a lot of attention to detail and concentration to understand it. It is extremely well-crafted, the cast is absolutely excellent and its twists and turns will keep you interested and a little bit confused. Do not let its language prevent you from watching this masterpiece! Its cast includes: Louis Hofmann, Lisa Vicari, Oliver Massuci, Maja Schöne...
This is one I finished yesterday actually, and I absolutely loved it. Once again, only 7 episodes, however it has not yet been confirmed, but I do believe that there will also be a second season. Adapted by a book of Julia Quinn, it follows eight Bridgerton siblings trying to find love. However, there is also Lady Whistledown who knows everyone's secret and threatens to uncover them. I would describe it as a period drama version of Gossip Girl, or a mixture between Pride and Prejudice and Gossip Girl. It was extremely addictive, not very hard to follow and all in all, worth the watch. It was funny at times, sweet, steamy a bit, but overall an amazing show. Its cast includes: Phoebe Dynevor, Regé-Jean Page, Jonathan Bailey, Claudia Jessie...
