Utah Showcases Creative Halloween Routines by Lai Rupe's Choreography

Did You Know?

The word "choreography" first appeared in the American English dictionary in the 1950s. The term "Choreography" was first used to honor George Balanchine in the Broadway show "On Your Toes" in 1936. Before 1936, performance and movie credits used language such as "dances staged by" or simply "dances by" to credit the choreographer.

What Does a Choreographer do?

To design a sequence of movements in which motion, music and form are directed and designed, is the choreographer's job.

Another cool fact about choreography is that the word "choreography" literally means "dance-writing!" I was taken from the Greek words for circular dance and writing. Today, choreography is used in a variety of fields other than dance, including Musical production, cheerleading, cinematography, choir groups, bands, gymnastics, fashion shows, ice skating, synchronized swimming and even video game production. (Crazy huh?)

As a choreographer

I love creating new dance routines and combos that make dance really come to life. This Halloween, Lai Rupe's Choreography did just that as Utah's non-profit Dance Company, Avidity Dance, Showcased some of Lai Rupe's Choreography.

Though many of the dancers with Avidity are beginners, and the execution of choreography was not perfected, the talent behind Lai Rupe's Choreography was still noted by audience members as "spectacular" and "enticing." Non-Company Members watching showed great interest in joining the group simply because of the amazing choreography and teacher Avidity has to offer, along with their affordable pricing.

For me, this was a great accomplishment. Lai Rupe's Choreography has always been a proud sponsor of this Non-Profit Dance Company, and we love sharing our passion for dance at rates that everyone can afford! We pride ourselves on never turning anyone away due to pricing, and this has lead Lai Rupe's Choreography to great success.
