New Valentices Day Horror Movies: Cupid 2020
Valentine's Day horror doesn't come any newer than Cupid. Released on February 6th just in time for the day of love the story follows Faye. Faye is a witch and to take revenge on some girls at her school she summons an Evil Cupid. A slasher movie, for Valentine's day, Cupid doesn't want to fill people's hearts with warm and fuzzy feelings.
Cupid comes from the mind of Scott Jeffrey and will be distributed by Uncork'd Entertainment.
Cupid 2020 Releases just in time for V-Day
My Bloody Valentine (1981 and 2009)
You simply can't have a Valentine Day themed list without this title. My Bloody Valentine is a favorite for many slasher fans. Originally released in 1981 the film was rebooted in 2009. Both films have similar rating scores on databases, so take your pick and settle in.
Synopsis for My Bloody Valentine 1981
There's nothing more romantic than watching a movie set in Valentines Bluff. I t may be a small town but everyone remembers the accident 24 years ago. The only survivor from a group of miners trapped in an explosion has been institutionalized. But does Harry have unfinished business?
If you were expecting candy for Valentines' Day, this film does not set the bar on tasty treats. Instead, an iconic heart-shaped box with a human heart appears and the town must decide whether celebrating should be knocked off the agenda.
Synopsis for My Bloody Valentine 2009
In the same story as the 1981 version of My Bloody Valentine, the 2009 tale is reworked and takes place in Pennsylvania. Harry is still the only survivor of the terrible accident and the story shines a spotlight on Tom who was blamed for the whole thing.
Don't worry, the 2009 reboot has plenty of heart-shaped boxed with human hearts too.
Different Valentines Day Horror - Pontypool 2008
Not because it's about love or themed in the same way as the others but guess what? This one starts on Valentines Day.
Valentine’s Day isn’t just background noise either, the holiday is significant to the bigger picture of the story and themes of the movie.
Pontypool features love and relationships too.
Before there was Bird Box and A Quiet Place, there was Pontypool.
Generally underrated, this one is an apocalyptic film that is just brilliant. "Do we really want to provide a genocide with elevator music?" A radio host interprets the possible outbreak of a deadly virus which infects the small Ontario town he is stationed in.
Great Casting in Valentine 2001
Another Valentines Day film with a slasher story line and set around another dance. This one stars Denise Richards (Wild Things) and David Boreanaz (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) before either of them did anything good.
Valentine sets about telling story of a masked stalker creeping on five women who wronged an outcast called Jeremy in high school.
The five women receive obscene Valentines Day cards with the initials Jeremy on them.
The director is Jamie Blanks who also managed the helm for Long Weekend (2008), Storm Warning (2007) and, Urban Legend. If that isn't enough reason to check this movie out, I don't know what is.
Dark Valentines Television
Maybe you don't want to watch a movie. The Netflix series 'You', has two seasons of love related drama to show you that sometimes you're just better off single.
The story follows Joe and he's the type of guy that loves you so much he just might kill you. Joe's obsession begins with Beck. He fashions a relationship with her using the wonders of social media and the internet to find out everything about her.
The show uses the subtext of the dangers of being an open book online and how quickly information can be used by others if you're not more careful.
The TV series is well regarded for its binge-worthy story and is often purported to sensationalize stalking. I don't think it does that, in fact, I think it does the exact opposite. Watch it for yourself.
The Loved Ones, An Australian Horror Classic
For something a little different, The Loved Ones is an Australian horror movie. A horror film about unrequited love, the story follows Brent and Lola. It's a vicious and well-made horror and thriller movie from Sean Byrne and is one of my personal favorites.
The Loved Ones has amazing character depth and a very involved and well thought out narrative with plenty of surprises along the way. It puts the creep in creeper and absolutely stands the test of time.
Let The Right One In, Vampire Love for V-Day
If you love nothing more than a dose of world cinema to brighten up your Valentine's Day, then look no further than Let the Right One In. There is also an English language () version that isn't as good as the original Swedish language film but comes very close. Let Me In 2009
Let the Right One In is a love story between a Vampire and a young boy called Oskar. Derived from a novel of the same name Oskar's new friend Eli slowly reveals herself as a different kind of killer.
The cinematography is incredible and despite is subtle scary resonance this film remains one of my all-time favorite movies ever.
Want More Valentines Day Horror? Here's Some Poorly Rated Films
Lovers Lane (1999)
Starring Anna Faris, Lovers Lane has terrible reviews and a Freddy Kruger storyline. Instead of a glove of blades, the killer here has a maniac wielding a giant hook.
My Boyfriend's Back (1993)
Listed here not because it's poorly rated but because of it's PG-13 rating, My Boyfriend's back sees Johnny come back from the dead to win the most popular girl in school— Missy.
Rec 3: Genesis (2012)
A zombie movie that ends the Rec franchise is Rec 3. It begins during a couples' wedding day and turns into a survival flick of mass destruction. Clara does battle throughout against the zombie hordes in her wedding dress. This is the best of a bad bunch and will still scratch that V-Day itch if you have one that coincides with a penchant for zombie films.
Zombie Honeymoon (2004)
Another zombie film for the gore lovers of cinema is Zombie Honeymoon. This film has terrible reviews and ratings but sometimes that doesn't matter. A gore-filled story of the sanctity of marriage and what would happen if your newly betrothed husband slowly became one of the undead.
