Video Rewind: A Golden Globe retro weekend
It's time to dust off the faux diamonds and slip into your favorite pajama's because Award Season is here and we'll be bombarded with a lot of award shows.
Before you settle in your favorite chair or place bets on the winners, let's take a walk down the beaten red carpet and revisit some of this years Golden Globe nominees and their previous nominations.
1989 must not have been a good year for comedies and why the Hollywood Foreign Press Association decided to nominate Meryl Streep for She-Devil as Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture-Comedy or Musical is beyond me.
Sure its a black comedy but Meryl, stick to what you know. Trying to play an over the top bestselling author just didn't suit you and it's still painful to watch even when I have the craving for a bad movie.
Bill Murray for 1984's Ghost Busters? It could have happened but another one of those why questions.
I haven't watched this comedy classic is awhile and if I remember correctly, his character gets slimed and falls in love with Sigourney Weaver. This isn't a movie I regularly watch but I'll have to put it in the DVD player and watch it and the sequel.
While this isn't Julianne Moore's first time to the Globes, her first solo trip down the red carpet was for Boogie Nights. As the mother hen to a bunch of porn stars (especially Mark Wahlberg) and a porn actress as well, Moore was robbed.
Not only does she seek comfort in drugs, but performs on screen with Wahlberg's character. She's in love with him and can't quite make out what's going on in her life. Plus, she keeps a secret to herself and has to live with the regret.
Finally, who doesn't love Reese Witherspoon? Well, she did earn a second nomination in 2002 for Legally Blonde.
Audiences loved her and really, who can hate this movie? It has a great cast and it just goes to prove that if you put your mind to something (no matter your hair color) you can accomplish great things. It's a fun look at what someone did for love. Although that bend and snap thing is by far the worst thing. After that, the movie sort of goes down hill a little bit.
Well that's it for this year. Maybe one of these four stars will walk away with an award and we might see them at the Oscars.
