Walking Dead Construction Sets
Each one of the build kits by McFarlane is a hand-painted work of art that is constructed piece by piece. The number of pieces range from 150 to 650 pieces per kit. The different pieces connect like Lego pieces. Many of the pieces are interchangeable which adds a little creativity to each build. For instance, the Governor's room has the tanks with the heads, but there isn't a set way to put them together. Different heads can go in different places, as well as the tanks.
Right now there are three construction builds available from McFarlane. There is "Daryl with Chopper", "The Governor's Room", and the "Prison Tower." Each one has spectacular detail, and includes at least one figure.
The detail can be seen in the photo of Daryl and the motorcycle. The figure is well made with angel wings on his vest. The motorcycle pieces together like a model with the piping, engine and tanks.
In addition to the build kits there are figure bags to get the other figures such as Michonne. Some of the bags are called "Blind bags" that keep the figures a surprise to the buyer until the bag is opened.
For fans of the AMC show, The Walking Dead, this is a must have for the collection.
The Governor's room is impressive. The recliner that the Governor sits in looks like one piece when it is constructed. The wood flooring is almost real, and the governor figure is nice too. The only weakness of the build is the fish tanks with the heads. Some enthusiasts of the show may find it a bit cheap in appearance, but it does light up.
The Prison Tower has over 600 pieces. The wiring for the fence snaps into place and the poles snap into the fence. The gate actually rolls open so that the display can be set however the builder wants to portray the scene.
The tower is a tough build with lots of pieces that are tough to get just right, but when finished it is a high quality piece. The roof, glass and railing really make the tower stand out. The grass and the weeds add some depth to the fence, and helps to break up the dirt/pavement that surrounds the fence.
There are several figures with this build including Merle and Glenn, as well as many walkers.
Future builds may be on the way as rumors of Dale's RV have surfaced on YouTube and other forums. The McFarlane quality and creativity could produce an entire series much like that of Department 56 snow villages.
The collector can setup the builds in any way that he/she sees fit; just like that of the villages. The difference and potential draw for these builds is that the owner can put the pieces together. All of that adds to the fun for the collector.
