Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory was the 1971 film adaptation of the 1964 Roald Dahl book titled Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl - The book that inspired the Willy Wonka movie

Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is an absolute classic. The 1964 book introduced us to the whimsical Willy Wonka, the poor but rich in character Charlie, and the nasty and obnoxious brats Violet, Augustus, and Veruca. This full length work of classic children's literature is highlighted with charming illustrations sprinkled about. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is an entertaining and imaginative tale that intelligently weaves in life lessons about living a life with integrity.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - Tim Burton's version of Willy Wonka

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is Tim Burton's 2005 adaptation of the Roald Dahl classic children's book by the same name. It stars Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka. Burton is a fan of Dahl's book, but strongly disagreed with the 1971 movie adaptation. With this film, Burton wanted to go back to the roots of the book, hence the movie title matches that of the book. Also, Burton's film focuses more Charlie's character just as does the book. This movie is brilliantly directed and superbly acted. I predict it will someday be considered a cult classic just as the original Willy Wonka movie was.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has Burton's creepy stamp, but set in a fun, cheery, bright wonderland.

Gene Wilder is one of my all time favorites. Johnny Depp is a great actor too, so it's a hard decision!

Love this book! it was all so typical of Dahl's writing and after I read about how he based a lot of the characters on people from his own childhood, it made a lot more sense to me. You can read about that here: http://www.infloox.com/person?id=6a5f6877
