Welcome to GlassSpider's Parlour

Updated on August 19, 2010
Feel free to make yourselves at home.
Feel free to make yourselves at home.

The lovely and illustrious LeanMan made the fabulous suggestion that we should each have our own, personal forums where we could carry on conversation without having to hop across forum threads – a salon of sorts! I thought this was such a wonderful ideal that I’ve built a beautiful parlour to entertain you in!

Come into my parlour, said the Spider. Here, in the main room, you can see there are plenty of chairs, sofas, and soft pillows in warm, earthy colors. Feel free to lounge, be comfortable, start a fire if you’re so inclined, and enjoy the sweet, intoxicating scent of Nag Champa incense that burns here continuously.

There's anything you might fancy to munch on here.
There's anything you might fancy to munch on here.

Straight ahead, you’ll find my kitchen – it’s a cosy little nook, but I keep a well-stocked larder. There’s everything you might want to munch on here, from the world’s finest cheeses to fresh herbs, fruits, and vegetables; the finest meats; and everything in between. Whip up something wonderful to chew on here.

On your right, you’ll find my green room. Made entirely of glass windows, this is the place to come and soak in the sun. While it’s filled with a wide array of aromatic and lovely flowers such as jasmine and roses, the stars of this room are my gorgeous and rare orchids.

This is also where I grow all my fresh herbs: peppermint, basil, dill, oregano, rosemary, thyme, and others. Make sure to breathe deeply and enjoy the compelling blend of botanical aromas.

Don't miss my succulent and cactus collection and on the far wall; I love all my beautiful plants, but these are some of my favorites - hens and chicks, aloe, snake plants, and mother-in-law's-tongue. You'll love all my green babies, I'm sure!

Finally, on your left, you’ll find my massage parlour. There’s a shelf with a variety of the best essential oils including myrrh, lavender, lilac, vanilla and many more, all one hundred percent pharmaceutical grade and perfect for aromatherapy when blended with my special mix of jojoba, sweet almond, and emu carrier oils. We’ve always got stones warming for a hot stone massage, and the state-of-the-art massage table is always ready for someone who needs to unwind. Relax, and let your mind wander.

If you're in need of relaxation, but a little squeamish about the massage chair, soak your feet in my soothing foot bath. Make your own blend of oils to relax your feet, or add epsom salts to soak your cares away!

Welcome to my dream home! Feel free to share this virtual space with me. Ask questions, leave comments, tell me about what you’re thinking, doing, reading, seeing…just hang out. And remember, I don’t bite…unless you ask!

Mi Casa es su Casa! I'm looking forward to great conversations, edifying entertainment, and tons of fun with fabulous friends!

Wow, I've never been in a spider's parlour before. I thought it was going to be creepy and cob-web-ish but it was actually quite nice. Thanks for sharing, TheGlassSpider. Your parlour seems quite cozy!

Love your parlor. Spiders are good luck, so I look forward to joining you more often.

      Namaste.

*relaxes* Hey everyone - thanks for keeping up with me; I know it's been awhile since I've been around. Things are slowly coming together and settling down here in Baltimore. I'm looking for a steady, better paying job. I've managed to find a place to live for the time being. I've liberated most of my things from the house in West Virginia - things are beginning to look up. Mostly I'm pretty tired, physically and mentally, but I imagine with a better environment (check) and rest (check) that will pass shortly.

I'm hoping to get back to my normal activities soon. Thanks for hanging in with me.

Sounds like a wonderful, if a bit un-spider-like, parlour. In place of vegetables and nice stuff that's "wonderful to chew," I was expecting dead stuff that is wonderful to inject with digestive juices that dissolve the "finest meats" into a sort of meat shake that we can suck through a straw or something. But hey, pleasantly surprised. I might come chill at your pad since it's not that.

Funny detail (or lame, whatever, like I care lol), but I LOVE Lilac. I love pink too, so, everyone with gender-tyranny over what colors a guy who still likes chicks can like can bite me :D) but, yeah, some lilac and lavender oil ... nice detail.

It's funny, but I came to this hub as Nightwish's "Walking on Air" came round on my iTunes. Perfect song for this.

      Anyway. Just, yeah. :)

Hey, don't worry about it. Glad I could be of some use, my webby friend. Here's an awesome Hub by Frieda Babbley you may find very helpful: http://hubpages.com/hub/Adding-Photos-on-HubPages

Just came across it today =)

Thanks, Ixxy - I'm not really inclined to go looking for anymore pictures at the moment LOL...but I may in the future. I don't know very much about all that stuff, and wouldn't know how to tell if they were of better resolution or not anyway. But I DO appreciate the advice and constructive criticism! I hope that people's imaginations will make up where my pictures might be lacking. :-)

I appreciate your coming back to check up on me!! Shaantih!

Testing it out and Chrome and Firefox (which have two different and very popular rendering engines) seems to look much better, but a few pictures are still pixelated. (The first one in particular)

If it is possible, I might suggest looking for alternatives or higher resolution photos for a more neat looking article.

However, I'm a big fan of 8-bit art, so I'm most partial to pixelated photography, but don't take me as a shiny example. I'm weird.

If you go to a hub and click "edit" on a photo capsule, to the far right is a drop down box that allows you to alter the image size from "full" to "half", etc. All in all, three sizes. Give it a shot!

Thank you, Ixxy! I have noticed the same problem with the pictures and it irks me, but I do not know how to do what you're suggesting. Can you help?

Very interesting. I used to host a group called Universal Salon, in an unrelated blurb.

Cute little article, something I've some-what done myself (in opening up the curtain of lxxy's lair.) and found it fun and engaging.

Although I may recommend either making the pictures smaller or finding higher resolution versions, they look a bit pixeled.

      Good job either way!

@Rafini: You are always welcome, anytime. Fire up the foot soak; it's ready and waiting for you. Breathe in the soothing aromas of your favorite oils, relax and let your cares soak away into the water. We can build a real place in our imagination - I promise.

@mega: This can be a refuge for as long as you like!

@Jeff: Even a glass fly (lovely as you would be) would have nothing to fear from me. This is a place of peace. Shaantih.

Hi LM! You're welcome to come by anytime, and of course to get a massage when I'm around. I've been told I have magical hands and should have gone to massage school instead of into Counseling - who says you can't do both!?

We'll work away the sand and dust and tiring work there in Saudi Arabia; we'll start with a relaxing foot soak with ginger water. Then we'll get you on that massage table!

You have a great day as well!

HI GS, was a little nervous creeping into the spider's parlour (English I note..lol), but I'm here.. I like the sound of the massage room, can I pop by another time when you are in to get a massage??

I will reply to the mail you sent me a few days back... when I escape from work and the forums..

I will be setting up my own page in the very near future, probably the weekend.. I will let you know when..

      Have a great day..

Hi Glass spider, I came to say hello. A Small Circle of Friends was a place I devised to get out of the forums, about 6 weeks ago when I needed a break, lol. If you like to check it out. Of course you don't have to, just was planning on taking video requests, songs... Once you see what I mean, you might offer the same in your parlor.
