What Are The Best Movies for 2012?

Updated on January 1, 2013

Okay, 2012 is officially gone. Adios. I hope 2013 will be better. Movies are and have been a great escape for personal problems, whatever they may be. They DO serve a purpose to escape for two hours. What are your (whoever reads this) personal favorites?

The following are mine:

  • Silver Linings Playbook
  • Argo
  • Django
  • Skyfall
  • Monsters
  • The Whistleblower
  • Step Up Revolution
  • Hunger Games
  • This is 40
  • Prometheus
  • Wrath of the Titans

To a lesser extent:

  • Les Miserables
  • Anna Karenia

The one thing I noticed as I listed them was that many are on the potential Oscar list. Les Miserables was a surprise to me, in that, I did not know it was an opera- the story is sung-versus a musical where there is dialogue. So, that was a negative for me, but I can see why it could win an Oscar. As I sat there, I wondered how this type of move is made and whether the actors in it are REALLY the actual singers, which I doubt. I know some of them can sing. I wonder how much was dubbed. As to Anna Karenia, the Tolstoy classic, again, I did not know the story line, so I was surprised to find out that this classic storyline has been told over and over. In a sense, nothing was new about it.
