What "I LEARNED" from Michael Jackson

Updated on January 26, 2018

The Reason We Have Memorials

I attentively and assiduously watched the Memorial services for Michael Jackson. My husband and I watched it together. We both were surprised to hear of his untimely death. We found it all quite interesting. It has been reported that over more than 1 billion people collectively watched from all around the world. It was both inspiring and enlightening. I experienced a torrent of emotions. It brought tears to my eyes many times. I could empathize and relate to a degree, because over the last several years we together have seen so many close relatives pass on to the other side. Of those many both of our mothers passed on just seven months apart, from one another. This made the Memorial even more so thought provoking. I have much PEACE knowing without a doubt that both our Mother’s are now again with the Lord!

I conscientiously listened and engaged with each of those who really knew Michael Jackson as they shared their poignant expressions of him. They shared how Michael was a loving, kind, gentle, giving man, talented and funny person. This was deeply embedded in their many heartfelt as well as amusing expressions. I was glad that they showed the personable private side of his life. This is the reason why we have Memorials? We the viewers & fans really only know Michael from afar. A lot of the news, accusations and innuendos we hear are nested in a slew of propaganda. (Again I could relate, because my brother named Michael was one of those who passed away of whom I mentioned earlier.)

I have gradually acquired much more compassion for Michael Jackson. I knew that he was a mere child that had to grow up in the limelight, center stage, in front of the world. Children have a great need to develop an inner healthy homeostasis. This is what helps them have a balanced sense of self. They can usually read our emotions. Children have a basic need to be loved, accepted and understood. They also need to be respected. Michael unselfishly relinquished the majority if not all of his own childhood for the sake and financial gain of many. By doing so he took care of and provided for his family, friends, business associates, doctors, lawyers, household staff and many, many others. This is an enormous responsibility for such a young boy to shoulder.

I also feel and realize that Michael was a victim of much emotional, verbal, and physical abuse. This explains his shyness and insecurity… It is through his brilliant, ingenuous technique, smooth showmanship, graceful agility that he became an exceptional star. He had a such a wonderful, magnificent myriad of skillful breathtaking performances. Michael's childlike freedom would shine through every time. It is during this time I believe he could somehow momentarily rise above his haunting inner pain. There is no doubt that He gave us his all; whenever he performed it was magnificently magical.

Michael generously shared his multiplicity of gifts and talents with the world at large! This opened a whole new dimension for the entertainment world; that crossed all racial, economic, social, color and age barriers. Giving credit where it is due; this current generation and those to come as well have and will continue to greatly benefit from those doors Michael opened. He created and carved out a space of his own on this side of heaven. Michael took entertaining to an innovatively new level! He gave of his life sustaining essence. I personally think he is truly worthy of the title "All Time Best Entertainers!"

I do not condone wrong behavior in anyone, myself included. The TRUTH is told Michael was acquitted by a jury of any and all charges that were ever filed against him. He was declared “INNOCENT!” Yet, those accusations will always hover like a latent virus. Since he was unjustly tried in public due to much news propaganda. We will never really know what actually happened. Is this why he was treated as guilty? He still had to live under public scrutiny, an ambivalent shadow of enormous criticism, mockery and continual harassment... No doubt there were those who took advantage of him. There were also those who surrounded him lurking, who wanted to seize any opportunity to elevate themselves at his expense. All of this came along with the fame, notoriety and celebrity status he attained. But does this make it right?

During Michael’s Memorial those who knew him gave us a very insightful, lingering perspective. The Star studded professional participants , yet, also succumbed by their emotions; Mariah Carey, Jennifer Hudson, Usher, John Mayer and Stevie Wonder, all causing a softening of their renditions in song but yet powerfully emitting how they felt.

Queen Latifah spoke candidly and boldly as she fondly reminisced and read a powerful poetic tribute from Maya Angelou. Michael’s abrupt passing has greatly impacted as well as caught many off guard!

Smokey Robinson and Berry Gordy shared their respect, love and appreciation of Michael as well as humorous moments. Jermaine his older brother’s rendition of Michael’s favorite song “Smile” was ironically expressed in a harlequinly manner that so touched the hearts of many. No doubt he was overwhelmed by the passing of his brother yet rose to the occasion. It was said to be he was really Michael’s backbone…

It was Brooke Shield, Al Sharpton and his brokenhearted, loving daughter Paris that gave us a true inside glimpse of who he REALLY was… A most memorable touching moment as the family surrounded daughter Paris as she gave honor to her father Michael as the “Best father Ever!” and was willingly, readily and humbly comforted by Janet Jackson her aunt. Who is a STAR in her own right! During the finale as a TRIBUTE, all Michael’s siblings gathered on stage in unison with many others… No family exists without disagreements from time to time. I learned that Michael Jackson loved his children and family, he esteems and holds his Mother Katherine dearly and they love him and he lives on within their hearts… Yes of course his fans love him too, but only from a distance, he is in their mines what they want him to be, To them he is really an “Icon.”

One must know that there was little or no room for alone time, privacy or a sense of normalcy for Michael Jackson as a celebrity for security purposes. He could not go out to the grocery store, drive freely about, come and go as he pleased, take a walk publicly or perhaps even attend to his personal needs without someone abreast … So how could he without the assistance of someone, unknowingly do some or any of the things that he was accused of? Therefore if you must, one should also condemn his security agents, those who were around him constantly and those who brought, gave and anesthetized and or administered the alleged plethora of "prescription medications" as well. Who are they? Are they in fact to some degree responsible for Michael's untimely death? Were they not aware of the consequences and side effects … Michael was not a doctor. He was a son, a brother, a friend, a father and a world class entertainer. In fact, my opinion “The Best Entertainer Ever!”

I learned from Michael Jackson’s death that no matter how much you do, for some people it will never be enough. No matter whom you are, nor how much you give. Some people would have selected memory and tend to remember the negative things. Although they benefit more than you they never fully understand the personal sacrifices made at your expense... Michael not only gave of himself, his time and resources. He was quite generous. I learned that Michael Jackson is in the Guinness Book of World Records for giving more than any other Pop Star. Those who really know you will remain faithful. Love continues through eternity.

I BELIEVE, the most important relationship that any of us can have is to know and be connected to our Creator, Maker and Lord through a relationship with His Son Jesus Christ. It is so important to know Him personally as well as HIS WORD! Jesus was that WORD wrapped in flesh! The beauty about His plan of SALVATION; that it is not contingent on who we are! But because of what He has done! It is because when we accept JESUS CHRIST as our SAVIOR and LORD we are given the gift of ETERNAL LIFE! Romans 11 says “That if YOU CONFESS with your mouth, JESUS IS LORD, and BELIEVE in your HEART that GOD raised HIM from the dead, thou shat be SAVED…”

"Seek GOD first above all else!" This is where our true security and significance lies. I thank Michael Jackson for giving me a distant glimpse into the reality of fame. I haven no desire to be famous. But yet I desire to share the goodness of the Lord to all who are interested. You see in the end what matters most is our personal intimate relationship with the Lord. I have no doubt that I will see HIM face to face at the appointed time. It is my desire that I do and accomplish all that HE has created me for...

God knows all about each one of us even before the moment of conception. He has a unique purpose for each one of us to fulfill. When our time on tis side of Heaven over we who are His children return to Him. You just never know how short or long that time may be? So live life to its fullest in His presence! The most important audience is an audience of ONE; meaning in front of Him! I know even more so now; how so very important it is to live your life to please GOD rather than man! Because no matter what you have or don’t have when it is all said and done that is what really matters most. My thoughts, concerns, well wishes and prayers are with Michael’s children, his Mother and family. It is my Prayer; May you rest in Peace Michael Jackson!

Stars, Thank You! Michael Jackson was indeed a special person who touched the lives of many! I recently watched an interview with his former wife Lisa Marie Presley; daughter of Elvis Presley. She talked fondly about what a wonderful man he was... He certainly as you say was fond of animals as well. Thank you for stopping by to share In His Love, Grace, Joy, Peace & Blessings!

Brandicoot, I think that Michael Jackson was one of a kind. As I stated I have compassion for him... Yes I agree He was an "extraordinary performer." I gave him many accolades due his brilliance and second to none...

His extreme eccentricites and idiosyncrasies I mentioned in that comment was in reference to the way he was somewhat forced to live in which was so different in contrast to what one thinks is normal?

He took extra precautions to protect his children! If one looks closely they cannot help but see that he was a committed father and loved his children...

He was treated as though guilty although acquitted. It was evident in His interviews he was hurt and had to abandon his home because of the intrustive way the investigation invaded his personal contents. This further forced him to isolate himself... He adorned himself and children at times in extreme costumes to protect their privacy.

There was no question that he was terribly shy and self conscious due to being criticized and abused by his father... This was not to be negative but to shed light as to why he possibly responded the way in which he did, and to incite understanding and compasssion rather than malign his character...

I learned from Michael Jackson that people readily jump to conclusions rather than seek to understand...

Thank you for stopping by to share, In HIS Love, Peace & Blessings!

Thanks for your kind words about Michael in your blog. He truly was an extraordinary performer and human being. However, I don't understand what you mean when you say he had extreme eccentricities and idiosyncrasies. We all have idiosyncrasies. It's what makes us unique. You appear to talk about these "qualities or behaviours" as if they are negative? Would you care to elaborate on what you meant?

Loves to read, What brilliant insight! You have wonderfully pinpointed the void that Michael was pursuing...

"Sadly the only thing he really wanted was some form of acceptance as a child."

I think it is healthy to keep a bit of the child in you alive! It is the part of us that as you say "a tiny bit like Jesus. Gentle, kind, generous, softly spoken..." Did He not say unless we become like children we can not enter into His kingdom? You are so right "God knew his heart and that's all that matters."

Thank you for visiting and sharing your wonderful comments and sensitivity! In His Love, Peace & Blessings!

Hi DeBorrah, this is a truly wonderful hub. It's sad that Michael never Got to read these comments and saw that there were people out there who loved him for who he was.Sadly the only thing he really wanted was some form of acceptance as a child. That's why he was living it through so very many children Children accept you for who you are not what you've got. It seems to me that he was a tiny bit like Jesus. Gentle, kind, generous, softly spoken, loved little children and for that, like Jesus he was persecuted. God knew his heart and that's all that matters.

Dolores Monet, Yes it is unfortunate... We can learn a lot from Michael Jackson's life. It is important to seek to live life to its fullest with balance. Finding happiness in who you were created to be is important! As a believer I know an ongoing growing relationship with the Lord makes all the difference in the world!

Thank you for stopping by to share. In His love, Peace & Blessings!

May he rest in peace is right. Poor Michael suffered from his celebrity, the gossip, the abuse, the pressure. We like to think that the life of a star is a wonderful life, but it seems harsh and so often leads to tragedy.

God must have needed an angel

      That early summer day

For that is why you had to fly to Heaven, so far away.

God's chorus required a very special angel's voice to sing,

He knew you were the very best, our dear and precious "King".

So sing among the angels, and when raindrops trickle down,

We'll hear your twinkling echo, and we'll know you're still around!

To Michael, now up above. You didn't go alone, you went with all our love!

      Lady E

Michael Jackson has taught me so much and I did not even personally know him! With all of his God given gifts and talents he was still lonely. He was misused by many people. Michael Jackson’s story reveals the disturbing side of life. He was given many accolades for his performances. He supported, gave and helped so many people. He was acquitted of all charges and yet they continued to publicly humiliate him! I believe he was set up. Someone who was around him could have BETTER protected him.

As a person of color it is important to know that many automatically stereotype you. This is true whether you are famous or not. There are those who lurk to find the least bit of evidence to negate whatever good you do. It is much more important what God knows rather than what someone thinks! TRUTH really does set you FREE! Since Michael Jackson was such a huge success he was an open target! You are right the damage was already done. They publicly continued to shame him. Yet many of those same people capitalized off his misery and eventual death/murder!

No doubt that Michael Jackson was the “Best Entertainer Ever.” He certainly earned this title! I believe that Michael Jackson believed in God but no one continued to sincerely nurture him spiritually. (it is evident his mother did) I am appalled by the recent publishing of his private talks with a spiritual advisor! The abuse continues! Michael Jackson has helped me to know that no matter how much you try to help others. I agree Lady E, Someone will always look for a way to pull you down. They will use anybody and anyway they can to do just that! God makes All the difference in the world. As you stated: “No weapon fashioned against us will prosper" and also He will even reveal such people and their plans.” Praise God! Absolutely nothing gets by Him that comes our way! This is why He says “to be wise as a serpent and as harmless as a dove.”

You and all your comments are always welcomed, long or short! May God’s Love & Peace be with you!

A very touching Hub. I watched it live too and it was befitting. I had goose pimples while watching it.

I'm so certain Michael would not have died young if people were not so cruel to Him. The first Allegation - the fact that the parents could accept $25M? a a payout says it all. If their child was really abused, why did they accept such a large amount of money?

They put him through so much shame - handcuffed, police mugshots all over the press, Police searching his house (personal belongings) etc etc.

The second trial took its toll on Michael. He had to live it through the eyes of the media. He looked so frail. Even though he was pronounced not guilty, the damage had been done. I'm sure he hardly slept. It's horrible when people accuse you of what you haven't done, not to talk of child molestation.

Sadly, this then led him to depend on drugs and the rest is history. (and that's not to mention the ridicule he got of the press) He was such a great star.

One thing I have noticed in life is that when one is successful - there are people waiting to pull them down, waiting to see their downfall and this is where God comes in. If we are close to Him - "No weapon fashioned against us will prosper" and also He will even reveal such people and their plans.

Sorry for my long comment, but this issue of MJ upset me and the fact that he was just moments away from making a Comeback. Anyway, he is resting in Peace now. Regards, E.

      Dancing Red Feather,

I never have been one to be overzealous where stars are concerned. I agree with worshipping God only! It is sad to see that there are so many stars that have come up abused and sad even with all the people around them. Because of greed no one speaks out! Perhaps now many more will speak out…..

I have appreciated the multi talents that Michael Jackson was given! He really was a fantastic entertainer no doubt! Yet it is quite sad that he never really had a childhood! It is even sadder that he had to use drugs to cope or fill the void of loneliness …… I think that is a great idea about using natural products! It is terrible the enormous amount of prescription drugs involved in his death. You are right the Doctors should be held responsible along with whoever brought them to him!

It is satan’s world and it is important to keep this in mind. He, will do anything that he can to try to destroy you, undermine you, or slander you and destroy your name! You are right people love gossip, This is why I wrote this about Michael Jackson to get others to perhaps think and look a little deeper and not just believe everything you hear? To see Michael Jackson as a person even though he was internationally famous! Things are not always as they appear!

Thank you for your comments and visiting!

I have never been a fan of any artist..I don't know why but it was something that never attracted me. I never went wild as girls did over Elvis etc..:) I guess it was my up-bringing that we are not to worship or idolize any human being, that adorationan & worship were for God only.

I have always felt sorrow for famous artists that suffered as children at the hands of their parents, one or both or whoever else in the family.

Michael Jackson never knew what it was to be a child, his father being to GREEDY for $$$ they were bringing in to the point of even beating Michael and his wife told him to stop or he would kill MJ.

It is unfortunate that people go to drugs instead of natural products that cannot kill you as drugs can. Doctors are greedy also, they don't care about the artist, only the $$$ they are getting..the last one was getting 100,000 a month!

Once you are accused, even if you are found not guilty, there are always those who doubt. People love the fact that maybe a person is guilty because they have done something probably that they are guilty of and got away with it.

This is Satan's world, therefore, we cannot expect people to accept when one is found INNOCENT that it is true. All the facts proved that the mother was just after MJ's money and even the child said nothing happened. But the damage is done anyway.

If you notice..we don't publish in newspapers or in the news too many heros..most of them go unoticed or just a tiny ad. Why? Heros don't sell newspapers or give ratings!

Being in Satan's world, the gore, the bad and the ugly are NO. 1 news. People love to see people are guilty because when you are good, what more can you say to a person but u r a good person.

When you are can say continously bad things about the person and people love gossip.. Good is boring.

It is unfortunate what has happened where Michael Jackson is concerned in many ways. I personally feel that there has been many varying contributors responsible for his developing the extreme eccentricities and idiosyncrasies in His life starting with early childhood abuse. I agree he sought ways to recapture a missed childhood! I always find it quite interesting since he was acquitted in a United States Court of all charges; evidently they did not have enough evidence to convict him. Yet, he continues to be on trial publicly even after his death.

One thing that is true He was no doubt “The Best Entertainer Ever.” There is no question to the multiplicity of His artistic talents! I have compassion for Him and his children and family as well! Thank you for your open and honest opinions. And yes, May he rest in PEACE. Thank you for visting!

      Blessings !

I had never really formed a strong opinion about Michael Jackson during his life as far as his trial in the news and public opinion go. I didn't really know if he was guilty or not. I did enjoy his music and video's and he is worthy of many accolades as an entertainer.

I mostly since his death have felt compassion and sadness for him. He never seemed to achieve happiness or contentment in his life. All of his success and money gave him a luxurious lifestyle, but he seemed trapped in a lost childhood, that he was always trying to recapture. I pray that he is finally at peace.

Thank you, I continue to follow the news updates. We must continue to pray for Michael Jackson’s family as they continue to grieve as well. There continues to unfortunately be despairing information in regards to his passing. No doubt they are impacted deeply on many levels.

We agree that Michael Jackson’s life touched our hearts as well as the world. It is hard to fathom when one’s life is continuously undermined publicly. But since we know that the Lord looks at and knows the heart is what is most important. I think it is fitting to say he was the "Best Entertainer" ever!

I think your purchases are a great idea as well as a way to build the estate he has left for his children…. And a wonderful tribute as well!

Forgive me for taking so long to respond to your kind

words. I am learning how to better navigate through hub pages. I think it is also a wonderful tool to further proclaim the GOSPEL as well!

I am sooooooooo glad I was the first to comment on this HUB!!! For I am a FAN of Michael Jackson! I was truly hurt and realized that I had lost a person that I truly cared alot for! And I am still grieving over his death, just in my own way. Thank you for this Hub, I can't believe I haven't written anything on Him but what I have done is purchased three Michael Jackson purses, music, wallets, card holders, t-shirts, and still shopping!!! lol, That's my way of remembering him. God Bless you!!!!
