What To Do With Life When You Finish Watching A TV Series

Updated on December 21, 2011

You Don't Have to Feel This Way!!

How To Deal With The Loss of Your Favorite TV Show

Don't you just hate it when your finish watching a TV series?

It really is the worst, but don't you worry! Though it may feel like it, life is not over! I repeat LIFE IS NOT OVER! Go ahead, be relieved!

Life isn't over I say? Yes, there are more things to do. So let's get started talking about what you can do to avoid that "What do I do with my life now?" feeling. First off, I know that if you spent the time to watch an entire series all the way through, it probably means you were rather attached to the show. Maybe it was the characters, the drama, the picturesque life you wish you had? Or perhaps it was the humor. (Often times that is what gets me.) Whatever it was that attracted you, I guarantee that there is something else in this world that is similar to it. This brings me to my first post-show activity.

Options for Post-Show Activities:

  • Firstly, if you are really really thoroughly fixed on your show then one solution to solve you after-show sadness is: find something similar! Get the same type of enjoyment your show from another source. It is really simple to find something similar. Find out just what it was that attracted you to the show. Once the source it located simple pop it into Google and see what you can find! If that doesn't work then go to a site like and type in the name of your show. Yes, you will have already seen the episodes that come up, but there is a sections called "You might also like", which does all the hard work for you. It analyzes the basic characteristics of the show you had been watching and suggests shows with similar characteristics.

If you are the type of person who is in a slump after finishing a TV show, but seeks entertainment from another source then here are options for you!

  • First, STEP AWAY FROM THE BOOB TUBE! Surprisingly there are other activities in life that don't involve television at all! If you really want to get away from the media, try taking a hike! Seriously, it is free AND after watching a whole TV series, chances are you could use the exercise. (No offense)
  • If you are allergic to nature then stay inside and read a book! Books, though they are beginning to be viewed as old fashion (:c) are really the same concept as TV. Books offer the same escape from reality. They can take you anywhere, and you can do anything with the character of a book! You can fight dragons, combat evil, tame nature, hypnotize, and fall in love. If you do get hooked on books you're in luck because you will never run out of books, there are millions upon millions of books out there just waiting for you to crack the open. Another great thing about books is that they give your brain a nice workout and exercise your imagination. Also, they are pretty cheap! Pick one up at your local library today!
  • Now we have covered outdoors, indoors, and sticking to the comfortable ground of similarity, so what's left? Well you could really branch out and have some human interaction! Find someone who likes the show you just finished! You could meet for coffee and have stimulating conversations about why you enjoyed your show so much. That person might also be able to give you some suggestions on what to do next based on what they did when they finished watching the show, since you have similar tastes you will probably like what they like.

Those are just a few of the options the world has for you! Get out and enjoy, don't get to wrapped up in the fact your favorite show is over. You can always revisit it! In the meantime, real life beckons! Bona Fortuna!

I was probably most sad when Friends ended. After that, probably Smallville, although I knew it probably should have ended about 4 seasons earlier. Now I'm excited that the CW has brought back a DC Comics superhero to the small screen: Arrow! I guess I'm taking your advice to find something similar.
