Who Should Be Wonder Woman In Wonder Woman The Movie?

Updated on May 2, 2012
Linda Carter as Wonder Woman TV Series
Linda Carter as Wonder Woman TV Series

Another movie that has had so many inquiries is Wonder Woman the movie? Will DC Comics and Time/Warner ever get this iconic comic character on the big screen? After all, she is one of the most popular and iconic female superhero characters ever in the world of comic books.

Even though a Wonder Woman movie is most likely quite a bit away from happening, it's fun to think about who should be Wonder Woman? There's a lot of beautiful actresses that can look the part and play the role, no doubt.

Just like many other comic geeks, I do fancy certain actresses whom I think could step into the boots of the gorgeous Amazonian princess if Wonder Woman the movie should ever get seriously into development. I know there's quite a bit of debate about it, and rightly so!

Wonder Woman is an icon after all, and there's one factor that makes choosing the right Wonder Woman hard that's summed up in two words - Linda Carter! Yes, she is, forever, known as Wonder Woman for her portrayal of the character in the early TV show.

Actually, when one thinks of the character Wonder Woman, Linda Carter often comes to mind. For anyone my age or near my generation, getting around the image of her is a super task all in itself. Not just anyone can pull off that get-up so amazingly well as she did, you know?

Nevertheless, like I said, there's quite a few actresses I think who can pull off Wonder Woman in a movie. You may not agree or have others in mind and that's just fine too. Be sure to share if you do!

So here's my list of those Hollywood beauties who should be Wonder Woman. They resemble her physically and have already proven they can kick mucho butt on screen.

Also these actresses haven't expressed disdain to the idea like Megan Fox has, in which she said in an interview, "Wonder Woman is lame." So because of her comment, Megan Fox is scratched off the potential candidates list.

Of course, and as always, you can cast your vote on who you think would make a better Wonder Woman out of this list at the poll below. It's all in good fun so why not?

Kate Beckinsale in Underworld
Kate Beckinsale in Underworld

Kate Beckinsale

She's one of our favorite female vampires in the Underworld movie franchise, and we were all sure that she's no newcomer to pulling off action flicks. Okay, pulling off action flicks is an understatement. She can carry an action movie to huge blockbuster success!

Nonetheless, she looks the part with black hair as well. Okay, her eyes are brown, but, hey, she can always reuse the same blue contacts she used to play Selene in Underworld, right?

Kate Beckinsale would look like a more modern age Wonder Woman, and her accent just may fit in with the whole Amazonian exotic feel. After all, do we really know if Amazonian women speak with American accents? Not really!

Carla Gugino
Carla Gugino

Carla Gugino

Oh, Carla, Carla, Carla! A wonderful specimen of beauty and fine actress as well. To me, she would represent a more classic look of Wonder Woman like Linda Carter. I'm not saying she looks like Linda Carter, just more towards the silver and bronze age Wonder Woman in the comics like Linda Carter.

Many on this list would lean more towards the modern Wonder Woman comic look. However, back to Carla Gugino! No doubt is she is no stranger when it comes to playing in comic book movies.

She stunned audiences with her sexiness in Sin City. Then she made our pulses rise in her role of Sally Jupiter, the original Silk Spectre, in the movie Watchmen!

I can see her as an amazing Wonder Woman! She's got the looks and the acting chops. Is there even a doubt?

Angeline Jolie
Angeline Jolie

Angelina Jolie

Ah, Angelina Jolie is no doubt a perfect candidate to step into the costume and role of Wonder Woman if a Wonder Woman the movie should ever happen. Just darken her locks a bit more and got one sexy Wonder Woman.

She's already proven herself in various action films like Tomb Raider, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, as well as Wanted. We know she's more than capable of kicking butt and looking damn sexy while doing it. Even Joss Whedon, The Avengers director, wants her to play the role!

I think the folks at DC/Warner probably have her for consideration already. If not, I think they should seriously start considering Angelina for the role.

The real question is would she play Wonder Woman? You never know!

Sienna Miller as the Baroness in G.I. Joe Rise of the Cobra
Sienna Miller as the Baroness in G.I. Joe Rise of the Cobra

Sienna Miller

We already seen Sienna Miller as the raven-haired beauty, The Baroness, in the first G.I. Joe film Rise of the Cobra. We already know she can pull off those action scenes pretty well and look ubber hot doing it!

So, yeah, she's absolutely on this list of who should be Wonder Woman. With the dark tresses, she resembles the iconic Amazonian, and we all know she's experienced in intense action sequences.

Just slap on the costume, die the hair again, and there you go! A modern age looking Wonder Woman ready to hit the silver screen!

The Wonder Of It All

Although a Wonder Woman the movie is most likely far off from happening - if it ever happens with those cuckoo heads at DC/Warner - it's still fun to think about who would be best to play that coveted role.

This is my relatively short list of potential candidates to play the iconic DC comic character. Like I mentioned before, it's a pretty huge role to fill in. I would be nervous if I were them and DC/Warner came a calling to play the role.

Then again, they could be like Megan Fox and express absolutely no desire at all to play one of the most popular female superhero characters of all time. Sorry guys, no Megan Fox on this list, and no Jennifer Love Hewitt either, although she's been fighting to get the role.

Sorry, Jennifer, I just don't see you as a possible Wonder Woman.

So out of this list of who should be Wonder Woman, whom do you think would be best in the role? Be sure to let your voice be heard and vote at the poll below.

Of course, if you have other suggestions please don't be shy! Be sure to comment!

'GAL IS THE GAL!' Personally i'd have liked to have seen sultry Mexican actress Salma Hayek as a contender for a Wonder Woman.

I recall Gal Gadot being considered for additional Wonder Woman parts.

Yes! Likely to be a blockbuster being directed by a Woman.

The next Wonder Woman movie due for release next month is sure to keep the W.W. genre continuing for some time in the future. All actresses portraying the super hero/heroine so far have aquited themselves admirably.

Set to play Wonder Woman in her own right.Due out next year the former Miss Israel. Gal Gadot stated. Ever since i became Wonder Woman i have wanted to show the stronger side of femininity. She is not just for women and girls but everyone. Wonder Woman is universal".

Last weekend one of the London tabloids had a middle page spread on superheroes and featured the publicity still of Gal Gadot garbed in her Wonder Woman outfit. I think that her bodice is functional as a protective armour (for want of a better word) and the knee high boots afford her agility when in close quarter combat with an adversary.

The last Wonder Woman role being portrayed by an Israeli actress (rather convincingly) however i think that W.W. in her own right should be portrayed by perhaps some one of her original ethnicity whether it be Greek / Armenian or what ever.

Fairly recently the actress Lynda Carter came to Olde London towne for the stage production of 'Chicago'. If offered the part in a forthcoming Wonder Woman production i'm sure Ms Carter would accept it.

ERROR: Correct spelling of the lady's name is Helena Bonham-Carter. Profuse apologies and also she has the title C.B.E. after her name.

    • limpet profile image

Helena Bonhom-Carte could possibly fit the bill. Accomplished actress without a brash American accent.

Gal Gadot definitely comes across as the archtype Amazonian warrior woman and the sinister backdrop certainly appeals to the Goth/steampunk culture. Wonder Woman must be in a class of her own. Angelina Jolie is too Lara Croft for a W.W. I would nominate Mila Jokovich who has portrayed Joan of Arc previously.

I'm not all upset about Gal Gadot being cast like some are either. I think she looks great as a modern Wonder Woman. I think Olivia Wilde would have been a great choice also. Is that why she got the boob job? Maybe she was hoping to get the part Wonder Woman and decided to give the girls a bit of a boost. Who knows though.

If the original Wonder Woman had grown as we mortals i would put a figure of approximately 82 years of age now. Possibly the glamorous English actress Honor Blackman could fulfill the W.W. role. At one stage W.W. had a 'kid sister' tagging along with her. Perhaps that scenario could be developed. Sultry actress Gal Gadot certainly looks the part. The Amazonian warrior women (if they existed) were certainly nothing like self centered Hollywood prima donnas.

You had some good choices for the most part, of course I'd never let Angelina Jolie touch it. But Kate Beckinsale would have been great. I know people are upset about the Gal Gadot casting, but I consider myself open-minded and her photo was great. I personally was vouching for Olivia Wilde though.

I don't know...I wouldn't be opposed to Angelina. She is played out in action films, but I think her experience could be a positive thing. I would, however, choose Kate Beckinsale over Jolie.

Angelina Jolie would be the worst, I voted for Kate Beckinsale cause I assumed she got the least amount of votes But I guess I was wrong.

I agree Jade Evans that Chris Nolan signing on can be a good thing when it comes to DC comic movies getting that extra push in finally happening. We shall see...I do hope he does not go with the darker tone on characters like the Flash and Green Lantern. That just wont work, but we shall see. Thanks for stopping by and joining the convo.

Didn't expect the Alba idea to go down great :) More pretty than convincing.

Great news about Christopher Nolan, that gives me hope that everything will be alright. And maybe they could lend him out for a Mandrake the Magician movie.....

Thanks Jade Evans, and thanks for stopping by. A lot are picking Jolie and Kate Beckinsale. I think they have enough star power to give a Wonder Woman movie extra interest for those who aren't really comic fans.

Jessica Biel is a good choice, but I'm not so sure about Jessica Alba.

I'd love to see a Wonder Woman movie also, and we're all scared it may end up like Catwoman. However, it's been announced that Christopher Nolan will be producing and having a large say in the direction of future DC Comic movies.

Awesome suggestions and great to hear from you.

Good hub and topic! I'd have to go with Jolie too. It's true she's in a lot of movies, but have to admit I don't get sick of watching her. She's gorgeous, can handle action, got a great screen presence and definitely has the right curves.

Could also imagine someone like Jessica Biel too, with a bit darker hair. Or Jessica Alba, she'd look good, but maybe not enough attitude.

Would love to see a Wonder Woman movie, although it does frighten me a little that they might make another "Catwoman" out of it!

Wow, I agree izettl. Women in the 70s had amazing curves then. They looked like women...not like today where it seems most women are trying to get the shape of a 13 year old boy.

Glad you brought that up izettl!

izettl....AWESOME and good points...I never thought of Liv, she would make an interesting Wonder Woman.

As for Linda Carter, it's NOT very easy to replace her as Wonder Woman. When most of us think of Wonder Woman and someone playing her...Linda Carter is the first image that comes to mind.

I don't know who Amber Heard is, but thank you for voting for Carla! Now, I'm not the only one lol.

Please not Kate Bekinsale or Angelina- if I have to see them in one more movie I could scream.

Liv Tyler, Amber Heard (with dark hair)...I don't know. How easy can it be to replace Linda Carter? She was my hero growing up!

I voted for Carla though- Angie and Kate are way too played out in action films.

Heya Rahul, good choice. I can actually see Kate Beckinsale as being a good Wonder Woman. A Wonder Woman movie would be quite interesting.

It would be interesting to see how they meld her world of the Amazonian with today's modern world. A lot of creative imagination would have to be put into that script in order for the movie to seem plausible.

But, if they can pull of Thor and ground his mythos in today's world, I don't see why a Wonder Woman couldn't work either.

Thanks for stopping by and joining the conversation. Always good to hear from you Rahul!

Lol Steve Lensman @ the ageist remark. Yes, Carla Gugino is the oldest in the list, but she does look younger and I think she looks like the best Wonder Woman - feature wise - I think DC might be looking for someone with a lot of star power to carry a possible Wonder Woman flick.

In the past, female superfheroes that starred in their own solo features really haven't done all that well. It's a crap shoot, but it's fun to think about about and muse over.

Always good to hear from ya Steve and thanks for the vote up and commenting. I'll be looking forward to your next hub amigo!

Of the four women you've listed Carla Gugino is the oldest and in her 40's. Sienna Miller is the youngest at 30, so I voted for her. :) No! I'm not ageist!

Maybe they should go with an unknown and turn her into a star like they tried to do with Supergirl.

      Voted Up.
