Margaret Minnicks has been an online writer for many years. She writes about various things, including celebrities and entertainment.

After Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down from being senior members of the royal family, they are now splitting their time between the United Kingdom and North America. They chose Canada to be one of their residences. Of all the places in the world to live, why did they decide to live in Canada?

Family Spent the Holidays in Canada

Prince Harry, Meghan, and Archie spent six weeks in Canada from late November to early January on an extended Christmas break. That was before they announced they were stepping down from being senior members of the royal family. In their post on Instagram, they indicated they would split their time in the United Kingdom and North America. That could have been in California, Meghan's native home and where her mother lives. However, the couple settled on living in Canada.

Prince Harry and his family are all together now residing on Vancouver Island in southwest Canada. As far as the public knows, they are staying in a $13.7 million seafront home whose owner has not been revealed.

Meghan and Archie have no plans to return to the United Kingdom anytime soon, but Prince Harry will be going back and forth because he still has formal engagements there.

Why Canada?

The Sussexes are thousands of miles from their home in Frogmore Cottage in Windsor. They are staying in a temporary place in North Saanich that has a private road.

While they were on vacation there, Buckingham Palace issued a statement confirming that the family was away and in Canada.

1. Prince Harry Is No Stranger to Canada

Prince Harry is no stranger to Canada. He and his brother, Prince William, went on a Canadian tour with their parents when they were kids. Prince Charles later returned with his sons for a ski trip. Prince Harry has visited Canada many times before dating Meghan, and he continued to do so after he began dating her in 2016.

Harry was trained at the Canadian Forces Base Suffield in Alberta when he was in the British Army.

Canada hosted the 2017 Invictus Games. The international competition for wounded, injured and sick service personnel and military veterans was created by Prince Harry.

2. Meghan Lived and Worked in Canada

Meghan is said to be adjusting well with her new life in Canada. She is very happy that Prince Harry has joined her and Archie, and they are beginning to live a more normal life.

Before she was engaged, she lived in Toronto for seven years while she was filming the legal drama Suits. She is familiar with the country and has friends who live there.

If she ever decides to return to acting, she will be in the place where many other movies and television shows are filmed. That includes The Handmaid's Tale, Tin Star and The Revenant. Production companies are finding the landscapes they need in Canada’s cities and scenery even if Canada isn't the actual setting of their project.

3. Not Really Cutting Ties

Harry’s grandmother isn’t just the Queen of the United Kingdom, she is also the Queen of other countries including Canada. In a way, Prince Harry and Meghan aren’t completely cutting ties with the United Kingdom by moving to Canada.

New immigrants have to take an oath to be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second, Queen of Canada, Her Heirs and Successors.

4. Canadian Neighbors

In comparison to other places, Canada is a relatively safe country for Prince Harry, Meghan, and Archie. Some Canadians want to protect the family’s privacy. For example, the paparazzi offered a Vancouver Island charter operator a contract to help get a closer look at the mansion where the royal family is staying, but he said it was easy to refuse the contract. Canadians and all of the islanders are respectful of their neighbors' privacy.

Canadians have welcomed the couple to the country with job offers and other things. Since Harry was a helicopter pilot in the army, Rainbow Air Inc. posted a job for him on Twitter. The job would be to fly tours over Niagara Falls.

Other Canadian companies are jumping on the bandwagon. For instance, a company has offered the Sussexes free coffee for life.

5. Beauty of Canada

Canada is a very beautiful place to visit and to live. Prince Harry and Meghan are reportedly staying near Victoria, the island’s largest city, which is also the provincial capital of British Columbia.

My husband a solicitor in Northern UK and then an attorney and assistant general counsel in MN love Vancouver! Vic had a long legal case in Seattle, Wash. Every weekend we took the fairy to Canada and spent the weekends in Vancouver. Western Canada has much better weather than Eastern Canada as a rule. We love the west coast of Canada. This is a great choice, and Canada as a whole is, for Meghan and Harry to put down roots. Blessings to them.

My youngest son has spent time on Vancouver Island with friends whose grandfather lives in a seaside mansion, It just sold for 2 million so they are probably not near Harry and Meghans 13 million neighborhood .

I've been to Toronto and other parts of Canada. It's a great choice for the young couple. Yes, people forget Canada is part of the "British Commonwealth," but the young prince and his family will be at home in the beautiful nation. Thank you Margaret. wonderful update.
