Why Do People Love to Hate Justin Bieber?

Updated on March 9, 2012

Bieber Fever - an actual illness?

I want to pose a question to the Internet community: Why do we love to hate Justin Bieber?

Why do so many people love Justin Bieber?

1. He is incredibly famous.

2. He has millions and millions of fans, mostly female.

3. He is one of the most googled or youtubed names in the world.

4. He can dance well.

5. Whether we like to admit it or not, he has a lot of talent as a singer.

6. He is young and when he first became popular, a generation of girls fell in love with him.

7. He doesn't get in the press for doing drugs, getting too drunk etc. like other celebs are known to do.

8. He always has a smile on his face. (Ahh that annoying smile!!!)

So all of this seems to be pretty good. Why then, do so many people hate him? Well, lets consider some possible arguments against him.

Why do so many people hate Justin Bieber?

1. He is incredibly manufactured by the music industries that "own" him.

2. Some people have just had enough of him appearing EVERYWHERE. He is over marketed.

3. Some people have had enough of listening to other people, mainly 15 year old girls, go on and on and on and on about him and posting useless comments all over the internet saying 'love me Justin'.

4. He uses auto tune. (Who doesn't these days I guess?)

5. There is something really annoying about his face (not a good reason but it niggles!)

6. We want his life, his money, his fame, his popularity, and his girlfriend!

So taking all these things into consideration, the question that springs to mind is:

Do we hate Justin Bieber because we are jealous of him or is it more than that?

Personally, I am quite a stubborn person, and it would be far too much for me to accept that I might be jealous of Justin Bieber, so I am going to argue that there is just something unbelievably irritating and annoying about him. His face, his smile, his music, his dancing, his success, it is just so annoying.

I normally manage to avoid coming into contact with his franchise but when you hear people talking about how much they love him you can't help but want to scream at them how bad he is. And lets face it, us haters all do that! We all come out with arguments about how bad his music is and how terrible and annoying he is.

Will this ever change? Probably not, maybe one day if he goes out of the limelight, but for now, we are all stuck in Bieber fever and there is nothing we can do about it apart from put our heads down and try our best to ignore everything that the media and young generations of today stick in our faces! It's difficult, but we will do our best.

I am going to make a poll for men who love Justin Bieber, women who love him, men who hate him, women who hate him. It will be interesting to see how it goes. I think we can all predict to a certain extent what the results might be. I am going to say, a lot of women love him, hardly any women hate him, a lot of men hate him, and only a few men love him. This must suggest that he is a very good looking young man? If I am correct that is. It would be interesting if the result was something different!

Please leave me some opinions as well on why you think we love to hate the Bieber Meister! (Or if you think we are all terrible jealous people, tell us about that as well!)

I personally dislike (hate is too strong a word) him, because frankly I have a strong dislike for most of the pop genre. I think that it's overrated, and it just plays way too many times on the radio, and well, everywhere you go. It's alright to like a genre or a particular singer, but just don't wave it around a parson's face, especially if he doesn't like the genre as a whole. I usually listen and play classical, and for some strange reason I really like alternate rock; strange combination, I know.

      1. Boys be jelly

      2. People just love jumping on the hate bandwagon, it's 'fashionable' to hate him

      3. They dislike his songs (but they keep listening anyway, they just can't seem to keep away!)

      4. He's 'gay', (with a girlfriend, but no one cares about that), and that's why we only hate him and not the rest of the homosexuals in the world.

      5. He has a GIRLY VOICE! This is my favorite reason, cos it's a totally legit reason to hate someone you don't even know.

I didn't even know that Justin Beiber existed until earlier this year while I was staying in a hospital. I'm 30 years old and I've haven't paid attention to mainstream music since I was 14. Without exaggeration, I have not listened to radio or music television in sixteen years and have been gloriously out of the loop, I'm into weird, quirky and underground music and anything that sound generic is boring to the point that it melts away in the background and I can't hear it.

Call it a skill or an individual instinct because the last teen pop star I remember was Brittney Spears. I don't even know if she still performs.

I have never knowingly listened to Justin Beiber and for the longest time was calling him Justin Beaver due to ignorance and not due to any hatred. From what I can gather from the boy is that he's nothing more than the next in a long line of manufactured pop starts whose flame will burn brightly burn out quickly. I've been highly amused watching the hatred for this boy as an outsider, not because I'm better because I don't pay attention, but more like because I'm reminded of my own adolescent hatred of pop music and that I've grown past caring and moved into the adulthood of ignoring junk... like Michael Bay movies.

I don't hate or like justin beiber. I'm just confused as to why hes a big deal, he is not all that talented Alicia Keys, Adele, and Aalyiah now thats talent. All people have trials in their life no biggy. You never see him in the media negatively but i aslo dont see him giving back or volunteering for any organization. Now let me say this if i sing baby baby baby oh over and over again does that make me talented?

HE'S NOT GOOD LOOKING OKAY?! That it!! I really cannot understand why so many girls like him. I'm a girl but come on! There's nothing adorable about his face (no offense to him). He looks like Hilary Swank by the way.

Chuckbl, Since I didn't fit into a category, I chose to check "Who is Justin Bieber?" But it's just that I have no acquaintance with him other than your video which may be either atypical or typical of a Bieber performance. At any rate, your article is a timely exploration into the mixed point where anthropology and sociology meet.

      Thank you for sharing,

Hi Alecia, thanks for your comment, I completely agree - despite the fame and riches, it can't be as easy as we imagine, and often young stars lives become ruined by drugs or alcohol! They don't all make it!

Your hub is very interesting, but I'm indifferent. I don't hate Bieber but I'm not his target audience and so I don't love him. His songs are catchy and while he doesn't have the best voice or look that appeals to me, like I said it's not my age group buying his albums.

Teen idols always suffer this same fate. They have to fight to adulthood and mature in a way that the public can accept. Some succeed and some fail. Only time will tell how he will shatter the teen idol image and if he can transform into a legitimate adult artist.
