Margaret Minnicks has been an online writer for many years. She writes articles about the royals, especially Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are expecting their first child in a few weeks. People are betting on the exact date the baby will be born, the gender of Baby Sussex, how much the baby will weigh, the name the parents will choose, and many other things about the royal baby.

Fans of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are looking forward to the birth of their baby to see what the mixed baby will look like. If they are wondering if the baby will have red hair like Prince Harry, they don't have to wait for the baby to be born to know that the royal baby will not have red hair like Prince Harry.

Recessive Gene for Red Hair

All people born with red hair have a recessive gene known as MC1R that is much weaker than other genes in people with brown, black or another hair color. In order for someone to be born with red hair, the MC1R gene must be passed down from both parents.

Prince Harry is a natural redhead even though neither of his parents had red hair. He does have an ancestor on both sides of his family with the recessive gene. On his father's side, his great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth I was a natural redhead before her hair turned gray with age. On Harry's maternal side, his mother Diana Spencer came from a family of redheads.

As far as we know, Meghan Markle doesn't have the recessive gene on either side of her family. Since she is not a recessive red hair carrier, it is very unlikely that Baby Sussex will have red hair.

People can imagine what the baby will look like based on the parents' look, but no one will know for sure until the baby is born. Meghan is beautiful, and Prince Harry is handsome. No doubt the baby will be beautiful whether it is a boy or girl.

Babies get fifty percent of their genes from the mother and the other half from the father.

Prince William Doesn't Have Red Hair

Quite frequently redheads will skip several generations. It is possible that Prince William carries the gene even though neither he nor his three children have red hair. He and his children were skipped. It is possible that his grandchildren could be born with red hair.

There is something else that is noticeable about the royal brother. Even though they are young, both of them are balding. Prince William is 36 years old, and he has been balding for several years. Prince Harry is only 34 years old, and he is also balding in the back of his head.

Other Famous Gingers

People with red hair are called "gingers." One must agree that Prince Harry is one of the most famous gingers in the world. However, there are other people with red hair. They are in the minority making up only about one to two percent of the world's population. People with red hair are ridiculed in some cultures while they are admired in other places.

Actresses Amy Adams and Nicole Kidman were born with red hair. Apparently, they don't like it because they keep their hair dyed a different color. The late actress Marilyn Monroe was also a natural redhead, but she changed her hair color to be blonde. The late actress Lucille Ball did just the opposite. She was not born with red hair, but she loved the color so much that she kept her hair dyed red. The comedian was born a brunette. She went blonde when she was a model before settling on her signature color.

Just as many men as women were born with red hair. Those famous redheads include Julianne Moore, Conan O'Brien, Ron Howard, Emma Stone, Shaun White, Jessica Chastain, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Susan Sarandon, Reba McEntire, Debra Messing, Kathy Griffin, Sharon Osbourne, Joy Behar, Chuck Norris, Ginger Spice, and President Donald Trump.

If research would be done on natural redheads, the results would definitely show that both of their parents carried the recessive red hair gene.

A Myth about Redheads

It is a myth to think only Caucasians were born with red hair. Some African Americans were also born with that hair color. In fact, slain civil rights leader Malcolm X was a natural born redhead. His street nickname was “Red.” When actor Denzel Washington played the part of Malcolm X in the movie, his hair and beard were dyed red.
