Will The Real Miss Universe Please Stand Up!

Updated on December 22, 2015

Who Was The Real Winner?

The stage was set and the audience held it's collective breath as the host of the 2015 Miss Universe stepped out onto the stage to announce the runner's up and crown the new 2015 Miss Universe. Steve Harvey with the runner's up and the winner's name on the ballet announced to the world that Miss USA, Olivia Thomas, was 3rd place runner up, Miss Philippines, Pia Alonzo Wartzbach, was 2nd runner up and that the newly won title of 2015 Miss Universe was Miss Colombia, Arianda Gutierrez Arevalo. The crowd applauds. Miss Columbia is congratulated, adorned with the Miss Universe sash, presented with flowers and the crown of Miss Universe was placed upon her head. Everything was about to come to a screeching halt when Steve Harvey realized he had made an error in his announcements.

A Blunder Over Who Wears The Crown!

Approximately two minutes after placing the crown on Miss Columbia's head the host of the Miss Universe pageant, Steve Harvey, had to come back out on stage carrying the ballet and announce to the world that he had made an error and read the wrong name as the winner of the title of Miss Universe. He showed the ballet clearly and apologized for his error on announcing the wrong name as the winner. Miss Colombia, Arindna Gutierrez Arevalo, was actually the 2nd runner up and not Miss Universe. The winner of the 2015 Miss Universe title was actually Miss Philippines, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach! Just before he announced his mistake the cameras were on Miss USA, Olivia Thomas, who was whispering into Miss Philippines ear that she had actually won the title.

Backstage Drama

Steve Harvey had came out on stage and righted the error of reading the ballet wrong and the sash and flowers were then presented to Miss Philippines. The crown was taken gently off the head of Miss Columbia and placed upon the rightful 2015 Miss Universe. Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, Miss Philippines, had her moment of glory tarnished with the horrific blunder but acted like a true gracious lady on the stage and behind the scenes. The same can not be said for some of the other contestants who treated the newly crowned Miss Universe anything but queenly.

The reigning Miss Universe tried to be apart of her fellow contestants but many of them literally turned their backs to her and started chanting "Columbia". An attendant of the reigning Miss Universe, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, rescued the real winner of this pageant and escorted her away from the catty drama. Miss Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach is the crowned reigning Miss Universe of 2015 and the very way she demonstrated the way she handled this horrible situation and the way she was treated on stage and backstage proves without a doubt that the right woman was chosen for Miss Universe. Miss Pilippines is the rightful 2015 Miss Universe.

The Wearing of the Crown

Do you agree with Donald Trump that both contestants should have been crowned and shared the responsibilities of Miss Universe?

Hi, Denise. Thank you for your views on this Miss Universe pageant which the world will never forget - all because of one man's error! But I still commend Steve Harvey for having the courage to admit his mistake in public, then rectifying it. The fact that he said he would take full responsibility was, indeed, very humble of him. I think society should stop belittling him once and for all. Mistakes do happen, and we just have to learn to admit them and make up for them.
