World Trade Center Footage - Remembering 9/11
With the upcoming September 11 (9/11) date just around the corner, I made it my mission in life to, finally, pay my tributes to both the heroes and those who lost their lives. However, when I say "do my part", I am talking about offering my words of respect, as well as, videos and pictures for those to remember this day of tragedy on one of our darkest days in history.
For those who don't know me, I did serve overseas after 9/11 - Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) 2003-2004. In fact, I volunteered to go - like so many others during that time. My reason for volunteering was that; a variety of things to include patriotism, rage, pride, love for country. You know? all the reasons that you'd expect. But I am no hero. And I hope you don't consider me one either. So, enough about that. This Hub is about those HEROES in the trenches during the battle on September the 9th to save as many lives as they could.
What Were You Doing on September 11, 2001?
Myself, I was preparing for another day at work. At the time, I was living in the city of Salem, Oregon. I had just arrived at this mini-mart to make a purchase. There they had a TV monitor screen near the checkout counter and the local TV networks were breaking from normally scheduled programming to report an accident between the World Trade Center and a commercial jet airliner.
At the time, no one knew it was a terrorist attack. But the gravity of the situation was so dire that the networks deemed it necessary to interrupt the day's normal programs. And, at that particular time, nor did I know the full gist of the situation that was unfolding before me. It wasn't until later that day at work that I discovered what really happened. This totally took me by surprise. In fact, I think I even sensed a state of shock! How could this be happening? and how could anyone get away with something like this in America? But the shock soon turned to anger and rage.
Chain of Events as They Happened
On the 11th of September 2001, 19 members of the terrorist group called Al Qaeda hijacked four commercial jet airliners. Two of the hijacked airliners hit both towers of the World Trade Center and a third airliner hit the Pentagon. The fourth airliner crashed short of its intended target (its original target Washington D.C.), thanks to the efforts of its 44 passengers - 44 Heroes, Al Qaeda failed this attempt.
American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175 hit the North and South Towers. American Airlines Flight 11 carried 92 passengers and United Airlines Flight 175 carried 65. American Airlines Flight 77 was crashed into the Pentagon. It carried a total of 64 passengers. And then, there was United Airlines Flight 93. The one that missed its target thanks to the heroes on board. It carried 44 passengers.

At 104 stories high, It is the FOURTH largest skyscraper in the world. From the ground to its spire, it measures 1, 776 feet high. And they are calling it "One World Trade Center".
