Wuthering Heights Book and Movie Review

Updated on February 2, 2013

A love story like no other © Sarah Masson 2011

Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte is one of my favourite books/movies I have ever seen. The book was first published in 1847. How amazing to be written such a long time ago and to still be being read today. There are a number of different versions of the movie. I have seen the two pictured above so far and hope to see the original and the other versions of it soon. The original is very hard to get your hands on.

Wuthering Heights is a haunting love story. The story revolves around Kathy and Heathcliff who grew up together and have always loved each other but are separated by class. Heathcliff runs away after hearing something that Kathy says and she doesn't see him for years. She gets married to another man but forever has Heathcliff in her thoughts. One day Heathcliff turns up to see Kathy and is no longer the poor boy that she used to know. He has cleaned himself up. They can't control their passion for each other but it is a love/hate relationship. They love each other too much that they also can't stand each other.

I think that is the reason why it makes the story so appealing. The fact that they love and hate each other at the exact same time really makes things interesting. I love the whole story. As it says on the newly printed version of the book "Love Never Dies..." It's beautiful!

If you have not yet read the book or seen the movie I suggest that you do so. If you love a good love story then this one is for you. Reading the book first is always the best way I believe, most of the time the books are better than the movies, in fact the majority of the time. You may also like to read Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. Jane Eyre was also made into a movie and I love that one too. It's another amazing love story with a twist.

There is also a song called Wuthering Heights by Kate Bush and it perfectly describes their relationship together. It also brings Heathcliffs' cruel and possessive manner into light. The story is full of jealousy, greed but above all it's full of love. Get reading people and let me know what you think of them :)

Nice Hub. Also one of my favorite Books and Movies. I have always loved the 1939 version of the movies the best, maybe because it was the first one I saw, so it is hard for me to picture anyone but Laurence Olivier as Heathcliff
