Who Is Yuka Masuda & Why Is She Famous?

Yuka Masuda is a young Japanese pop music singer that was involved in a controversial scandal in her personal life. She was a member of the popular Japanese female pop music group AKB48. She was a member of Team B. She is signed to talent agency Office48. Unfortunately though, many will remember Yuka Masuda for a sex scandal that forced her out of this popular girl group.

At the end of this written piece, readers will get a chance to find out who their favorite member of the sub-unit DIVA is even though this written piece is mainly about Yuka Masuda & her career.

Why Should the World Know About Yuka Masuda & Her Major Scandal?

That scandal and its fallout happened almost 7 years ago but we are addressing this issue yet again because news like this gets coverage and I would like people around the world to know that when a celebrity makes a major mistake such as this and then apologizes in a timely manner, that is how to handle controversy.

The Incident Known as the Yuka Masuda Scandal

It had been reported that her last day as a member of AKB48 would be on December 17, 2012 which was just a week before Christmas Eve. Masuda had announced that she was leaving AKB48 on November 28, 2012. Yuka’s decision to leave the group was due to the embarrassment that she has caused by the fact that she spent the night at DA Pump member ISSA’s house. ISSA had also broken off his engagement to supermodel Sachiko Fukamoto at the time and he strongly denies that he had any relationship with Masuda. This denial comes despite the fact that Masuda was involved in a sexual affair with him. Masuda says that most of the things that are in the report are not true but that she did spend the night at his place. She took the time to once again apologize to her fans about this. Her last day was on the same day that there was the Kohaku Taikou Uta Gassen. This is a sort of competition where the AKB48 members will be put into two teams and they will challenge each other in a singing contest.

The Yuka Masuda Scandal Incident Has Been Reported So Widely Except

The scandal itself has been covered a lot by me in the past and perhaps no other incident has gotten as much scrutiny as this one except maybe the dating scandal by Minami Minegishi. That event was even reported by mainstream press sources like CNN and the BBC but the Yuka Masuda scandal probably was reported mostly by Japanese press sources. The day after news of the scandal broke (November 29, 2012), Masuda apologized to fans during a Team K performance at the Akihabara Theater.

What Has Yuka Masuda Done Since Leaving AKB48?

In one of her first actions since leaving AKB48, Japanese singer Yuka Masuda announced via Twitter that she would have her own program starting in April 2013. Masuda did say that she attended the first shooting session for the program. Masuda returned to the entertainment industry in the summer of 2014. She took part in DIVA’s last single called Discovery. The group disbanded in October 2014.

Masuda also starred in the musical called Wiz in September 2012. Masuda has also done work as a bikini and lingerie model. It was in 2011 that Masuda appeared in Weekly Playboy Magazine with Sae Miyzawa (SNH48), Ayaka Umeda (then with idol group NMB48), and Sayaka Akimoto. These women were dressed in very sexy lingerie for that photo session which is amazing!

Yuka Masuda Has Had a Lead Role in a Musical!

On a much more positive note as we end this article about Masuda, let us expand further on her role in the musical called WIZ. She made a stop at the Sankei Sports Office in Osaka in September 2012 to promote this musical. She played the lead role of Dorothy. On September 28th of that year, the first performance of the musical took place at the Kanagawa Art Theater. And then on October 6th and 7th of that year, performances took place in Osaka. In order to take part in these promotional events, Masuda gave her full attention to the musical as she withdrew from AKB48’s first Tokyo Dome concerts. She mentioned that she wanted to break out of her shell and she wanted to give hope to those that were feeling down in Japan.

Yes they are held to a higher stndard in Japan. The management of these groups such as AKB48 has a no dating policy in which these girls are not allowed to have boyfriends. They are expected to maintain a clean image and focus on their work and they must work for the benefit of others on their team.

That seems quite a mild scandal compared with what some celebs are involved in. Are Japanese groups held to higher standards than those in the US for instance?
