Addams Family VS Munsters

Updated on March 21, 2012

Okay...You're all alone with no place to live..... You've been wandering around aimlessly for way too long and it's about time you find someone who will invite you into their home.....

There are two families that are willing to "adopt" you.....

The Addams family would love to take you in as their very own...

The Munsters would welcome you with open arms.....

Addams Family Theme

The Munsters

If You Would Like To Live With The Addams Family.....

You'll be living in a gloomy old mansion next to a cemetery and a swamp at 0001 Cemetery Lane. Sharing the house with you will be Gomez, Morticia, "Uncle" Fester, Lurch, Grandmama, Wednesday and Pugsly. And of course some rather odd pets and a very helpful "hand".

Gomez Addams is the master of the Addams household and the Addams patriarch, married to Morticia and the father of Wednesday and Pugsley. He's a rather naïve, handsome, and successful man, but he possesses a childlike, eccentric enthusiasm for everything he does. He always seems most happy when he's blowing up his model trains. The vast wealth (which he seems to care very little about) came through inheritance and extensive investments. He is extremely generous, and would go out of his way to help those whom he considered friends. He loves to smoke cigars, (they light the instant he draws one out of his breast pocket and extinguish when replaced). Gomez professes endless love for his wife, Morticia. Gomez is remarkably athletic, and he often performs complicated calculations in his head. He often tells time by reading the time from his wristwatch (which ran slow), then his pocket watch (which ran fast) and then calculating the difference between the two.

Morticia is a wonderful mother and a devoted and passionate wife towards Gomez. She calls him "Bubele", to which he responds by frantically kissing her arms. Actually, Morticia can also provoke this reaction from him by speaking anything French at all. Morticia can light candles with the touch of her fingertip. She once asked a visitor if they would mind if she smoked, then crossed her arms and literally started emitting curls of smoke from her body. Morticia is very passionate towards her "pet" Cleopatra, an African Strangler, man-eating plant . The plant eats meatballs made of yak and other tasty meats specially prepared and spoon-fed to her by Morticia.

Fester is a bald, roundish man with dark, sunken eyes and a devilish grin. He seems to generate both electricity and magnetism. He's constantly showing off by powering a lightbulb in his mouth. He is supposedly Morticia's uncle but you'll get various stories about "Uncle" Fester's family ties. He sometimes plays gramophone records with his finger instead of a needle and his mouth instead of a speaker.. Additionally, he suffers from a severe migraines that he cures by clamping his head in a vise, often asking Gomez to tighten the vise but feeling only relief instead of pain. He also likes to recharge in his electric chair.

As an Addams you will have the service of a tall, ghoulish manservant named Lurch. Lurch has superhuman strength and is kind of a "jack-of-all-trades". He tries his best to help around the house, but occasionally he botches tasks due to his great size and strength. He is cherished by the family and is wonderful with smaller tasks, such as waxing Uncle Fester's head. Lurch is deeply devoted to the children and can keep them amused for hours. For someone of his size and brawn, you'll often find him playing the harpsichord and organ with a great degree of skill and somewhat uncharacteristic enthusiasm. If you need Lurch, you'll usually find a noose hanging somewhere throughout the house. Give it a tug, hear the "gong" echo throught the house and then you'll find Lurch standing next to you asking in a very gravelly voice, "You Rang???"

Then there's Grandmama, the maid of the Addams household. She is also a witch who deals in potions, spells, hexes, and even fortune-telling. In addition to being able to whip up potions of varying effects, she can fly on a broom.

Wednesday is said to have been named after the phrase, "Wednesday's child is full of woe". She's a sweet-natured, innocent, happy child, mostly concerned with her fearsome pet spiders. Her favorite toy is her Marie Antoinette doll, which her brother Pugsley had guillotined. She's developing a more mature personality now with a deadpan wit and a morbid fascination with trying to physically harm, or possibly murder, her brother. Although she often seems successful, Pugsley never dies. Like most members of the family, he seemed to be inhumanly resilient. He actually seems to like the torture and supports Wednesday's attempts thinking of them more as games.

Six-year-old Wednesday is strong enough to bring her father down with a judo hold, and able to survive any mortal injuries inflicted upon her by Pugsley.

Pugsley may be the most "normal" of the Addamses. He is a dedicated big brother and an inventive , mechanically inclined genius. As Wednesday's foil, he is tortured and "killed" many times but is able to survive it all and actually enjoys "playing" with his sister. It is said that he can hang from a tree branch by his teeth but no one has seen him do it. Pugsley has an octopus called Aristotle.

You'll get to meet Cousin Itt, who frequently visits the family. Itt is very short-statured "relative" with long hair that covers his entire body from scalp to floor. He usually shows up in his 3-wheeled car: a Messerschmitt KR175. Not being an actual Addams, you won't understand anything that Itt says because he speaks in a high-pitched nonsensical gibberish that only the family seemed to understand.

Another rather odd member of the family is the disembodied hand named "Thing". Thing, who is only seen as a hand reaching out of various boxes around the mansion, can apparently travel from box to box almost instantaneously.

Thing was Gomez's friend since childhood and he helps out with a variety of common, everyday tasks such as retrieving the mail, writing a letter, or just giving a friendly pat on the shoulder. He communicates with the Addamses with a Morse-like alphabet, sign language, writing, and knocking on wood. Thing is always there when you need him. Mostly popping out of boxes around the house, he might pop out of just about anything to lend a Hand.

This odd family also likes pets. There's Kitty Cat, the family lion. The entire family regards Kitty Cat as they would an average housecat, and seems to pooh-pooh the notion that Kitty Cat is in any way dangerous. Kitty Cat roams the house freely.

Wednesday a large collection of spiders, with only one she mentions in particular by name, called Homer.

The family also has a pair of piranha named Tristan and Isolde, who lived in a fish tank, and a vulture named Zelda.

Or If You Decide To Live With The Munsters.....

Again you'd be living in a large but gloomy mansion. This one is located at 1313 Mockingbird Lane. You'll be sharing this house with Herman, Lily,Grandpa,Marilyn and Eddie. And a Raven and a Dragon !!

This family, unlike the Addamses, are a bit more odd in appearance but could be fun to live with.

Head of the Munster household is Herman. He's over 150 years old and was made (not born) in Germany. Herman stands at seven-foot-three with a size 26C shoe. He's hard to miss with different color eyes, a greenish complexion, steel bolts in his neck and a five inch long "beauty mark" scar on his forehead.

Herman is not wealthy like Gomez Addams. He works At Gateman, Goodbury and Graves Funeral Home.

He's almost childlike in ways and loves to tell juvenile jokes, most often being the only one laughing. Due to his size, he is extremely awkward and things around the house are constantly being knocked over or broken when Herman is on the loose.

Herman also plays the innocent one in many of Grandpa's schemes. Although he is being scolded by Lily almost on a daily basis, she still packs his lunchbox and gets him off to work every day with a peck on the cheek.

Lily Dracula Munster is a devoted wife to Herman. She is a full time housewife but sometimes tries to figure ways to contribute to the family finances. Born in Transylvania, she reads palms and cooks. Lily is more often than not the binding force of the Munster family. Between Grandpa's wacky inventions and Herman's naïve character, she' always stepping in to fix things and keep the family in line. And for as many times as Herman gets himself in deep trouble, she can never stay mad and he is always forgiven.

If you decide to live with the Munster family, watch out for Grandpa. Real name: Count Dracula (aka Sam Dracula)

Age: 378. Also from Transylvania and Lily's father. Grandpa considers his occupation as "mad scientist" and he always seems to get Herman involved in his plans. When they fail or wreak havoc, they're both scolded by Lily and they promise it won't happen again. Grandpa has a way of making even the strangest plan sound like it might actually work. He does most of his work in the basement laboratory. When not causing trouble, Grandpa can be found sleeping on a slab or hanging from the rafters.

Poor Marilyn Munster. Blonde, beautiful, sexy and probably the most normal and human thing in the Munster home. She is Lily's niece and she attends Westbury College just like a normal girl from a normal family. Marilyn's goal is to find herself a man, ANY man. But bringing a date home to meet the folks is like a death wish. But with some encouragement from Lily, she keeps trying.

Last but not least, Eddie Wolfgang Munster ! Eddie is never seen wearing anything but a Little Lord Fauntleroy suit. Although he attends Mockingbird Heights Elementary School and is in the fifth grade, he is rarely seen not carrying Woof-Woof, his werewolf doll. Eddie is easy to pick out from the other children with his dark hair with widow's peak and pointed "Spocklike" ears, which he uses to open tin cans. He tries to fit in as a normal little boy but still prefers sleeping in a coffin.

The Munsters own Spot, a flame breathing dragon that lives under the staircase. Every so often Spot might not be in his usual hiding place but no one really knows where he wanders off to.The Munsters also have a pet Raven called Charlie. Charlie lives in the Cuckoo clock. He is known to make sarcastic comments when family members do foolish things. So be mindful of your actions around Charlie.
