Aladdin DVD

Disney's Aladdin Cartoon - A Good Family Movie

The Aladdin DVD is a fun movie all the family will enjoy. And it features some amazing music. The story is told by a peddler from the city of Agrabah, trying to sell us Dead Sea tupperware and an old lamp. The story is about Aladdin, who is driven to theft because he is so poor. He dreams of living in a palace. Princess Jasmine, on the other hand, feels that her life is being lived for her and so she escapes the confines of the palace and meets Aladdin on the streets of Agrabah where they fall in love. But how can a street rat marry a princess?

Aladdin, Walt Disney's 31st animated cartoon classic, was first released in 1992. Many years ago when we first bought the Aladdin video, my son Michael (then about 3 or 4 years old) watched the whole movie twice in a row (or was it three times?!) and fell asleep sitting on the floor watching it. The Aladdin DVD was restored and enhanced and released at the end of 2004. A number of exciting additional features have been included, such as a documentary on the making of Aladdin, deleted songs and scenes and "Aladdin's Magic Carpet Adventure". You can see by the reviews on Amazon that many people think that this Aladdin movie is by far the best Disney movie ever made.

Unfortunately, Amazon reports that this DVD has been discontinued by the manufacturer.

Songs on the Aladdin DVD

All the music for the Aladdin Soundtrack was composed by Alan Menken and the lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice.

Arabian Nights is sung by the peddler (Bruce Adler) at the beginning of the movie. One Jump Ahead is sung by Aladdin (Brad Kane) as he is escaping the guards after stealing some bread. The Genie (Robin Williams) sings Friend Like Me to Aladdin when they first meet. When Aladdin is pretending to be Prince Ali Ababwa, the Genie (Robin Williams) introduces him to Agrabah by singing Prince Ali. A parody of this song is sung by Jafar (Jonathan Freeman) as he exposes Aladdin as a fraud and sends him to the ends of the earth. The song, A Whole New World is performed in the movie by Aladdin (Brad Kane) and Princess Jasmine (Lea Salonga). Another version of A Whole New World sung by Peabo Bryson and Regina Belle was released later in 1992.

List of Aladdin Characters

Is your favorite Aladdin character the gutsy Princess Jasmine or the quick-thinking hero, Aladdin? Perhaps your favorite Aladdin character is the Genie. Robin Williams does a stellar performance in playing the part of the Genie in Aladdin. His humorous antics will have the whole family in stitches. The villain, Jafar, played by Jonathan Freeman, is the sinister, power-hungry grand vizier. What about the delightful Magic Flying Carpet with the expressive body language?
