Fashion's not about looking back. It's always about looking forward.
Chanel sunglasses, bob hairstyle, a lean muscular body, Klein blouse, Gucci skirt and Blahnik shoes.
Powerful, rude, vindictive, capricious and enormously successful. Her annual salary is more than a million dollars, but her power in the fashion world couldn't be bought even with a billion dollars.
A lot of books are written about her. There are books for which authors say that those books are biographical and books that are completely fictional.
And what all books about Anna Wintour have in common is that they are a hit. She is supposedly the title character in the book and the movie "The Devil bears Prada", even though all involved deny it.
The devil wears Prada
Movie "The devil wears Prada" is a movie about fashion and it is expected to be full of top creations.
Patricia Field, who already worked for the legendary series "Sex and the City", was responsible for wardrobe in the movie.
And before shooting it was clear that the budget of 100 thousand dollars will not be enough. The Priestley characher alone needed around 60 different outfits.
Patricia Field knew she would need a budget of at least million bucks.
To get designer clothing Patricia Field asked hundreds of designers to lend their products for the shooting. Under normal circumstances most of them would respond and say yes, but in this case some of them were too afraid of Anna Wintour.
Nevertheless, about hundred designers responded and Patricia Field got few luxury items including fur coats worth about thirty thousand dollars. And one of the bags costs twelve thousand dollars.
And who is wearing them? Of course, all of them are worn by the moody editor, Miranda Priestly. And even her assistant's boots cost around thousand dollars.
But for Haute couture (high fashion) it is necessary to dig deep into a pocket.
The more people who can have fashion, the better.
Editor-in-chief of the most influential fashion magazine in the world has her work her genes. Her father Charles Wintour was a longtime editor of the Evening Standard.
Anna was born on November 3rd 1949 in London. She droped out of school, she left North London Collegiate, and focused on fashion journalism.
After fifteen years of hard work she got great opportunity. In 1986 he became editor of the British issue of Vogue magazine and a year later editor of House & Garden magazine.
In less than two years she increased the circulation of both magazines and bring them to the leading place in their field.
Then she was offered to become editor-in-chief of the American edition of Vogue, which was a key decision. Former editor Grace Mirabella gave more emphasis on lifestyle, and that undermined the position of the Vogue magazine on the market, where Elle magazine quickly took its share.
To be in Vogue has to mean something
Anna decided to return Vogue exclusively to fashion.
She did it on the whole line. She increased the volume of magazine, circulation and profits. Vogue has become the king of fashion magazines.
Today, any fashion designer can afford not to invite Vogue's journalists and photographers to their presentation. And if she shows up their happiness is indescribable.
Although not-so-young her figure is still perfect. And what else can we expect from a lady who went through both pregnancies in Chanel micro-mini skirts?
It's strong, pretty and wearable. And the stores will love it.
She is strong
Anna has always known how to use her influence. She founded a fund to support young fashion designers. Stars such as Stella McCartney and John Galliano shined under her wings.
Journalist at fashion shows can predict the success or failure of individual presentations from the movement of her eyebrows. And this is one of the reasons why she likes to hide behind large sunglasses.
She is an active member of many charitable organizations, but her critics complain that in recent years she rather enjoys in high society, instead of professional devotion to clothing and living style.
Because of her influence she has a lot of enemies too.
One of the most fanatic is PETA, an animal rights organization. Anna has been a thorn in their side for a long time because she likes to wear fur and to publish fur in Vogue magazine. She doesn't allow any paid advertisements of fighters against fur products in her magazines.
Organization PETA activists attacked her a lot of times, they have thrown at her rotten fruits and poured paint. One time they even threw a dead raccoon on the table in the restaurant, but a cold-blooded Anna persistently ignores them. In the incident with raccoon she just calmly asked the waiter to take it away and continued with the meal.
And what is her favorite meal? Steak, of course. A very bloody steak.
She is Whimsical
Her schedule has been unchanged for many years.
She gets up at quoter to six o'clock every morning and plays tennis for one hour, which helps her maintain condition and nicely shaped figure.
And then it's time for job. During lunch breaks she doesn't make phone calls, which is unique in the world of business. Her biggest speciality is her habit that every day, no matter what, she is in bed at 10pm.
And, of course, she also has her own whims.
Her arrival to the fashion show is creator's greatest wish and organizer's worst nightmare.
Sits in the front row are not her only request. Her team also sends very accurate list of people who must sit out of Anna's angle of sight, mostly from competitive magazines, and people, who shouln't see the famous editor from their seats.
An interesting speciality of Anna Wintour is that she often doesn't wear handbags. The role of that fashion accessory have her two assistants. And with the assistants things complicated.
Anna apparently behaves very rude to her staff. At least her former assistant Lauren Weisberger says so in her book The Devil wears Prada.
Her main character in the book is very capricious.
She demands from her assistent cappuccino with just right foam, new Harry Potter book before it is even officially released, right after her arrival at work there has to be a fresh coffee... And because her assistant doesn't know exactly when her boss is coming, she orders new coffee every few minutes.
And the list goes on and on...
