Thief 1981. Directed by Michael Mann. What is not to like? You've got James Caan in a role he was born to play. You have Michael Mann's beautifully shot night scenes with his now signature, abstract lights and wet streets. You have an awesome soundtrack by Tangerine Dream. Actors Dennis Farina and William Peterson are introduced for the first time, who both later star in another underrated movie of Michael Mann's called "Manhunter". A great supporting cast that includes Tuesday Weld, Jim Belushi, Robert Prosky (debut) and Willie Nelson. Trivia: A former criminal plays a role in this movie as a cop and former cops play roles as criminals. Actor James Caan has stated that his speech in the diner is the scene he is most proud of in his career. An anti-hero (Thief) is sometimes hard to get behind, but I love everything about this movie and feel that it is and was highly underrated.
