I'm pretty sure a gryphon is an eagle's head on a lion's body. Not to be confused with a hippogriff, which is the head of a bird and the body of a horse.

I think it's spelt Griffin and it is indeed a mythical creature that had the head and wings of an eagle and the body of a lion.
Not sure what made it, but I think it originated in Greece possibly Scythia.
