What are some good moments in otherwise terrible movies?
"Evan Almighty" is a clunky, underwhelming sequel to "Bruce Almighty" and quite possibly the most embarrassing thing Steve Carell has ever been involved with. However, I'm glad I watched it (once) because I found "God's" (Morgan Freeman's) monologue about prayer ("If a man pays for patience does God give him patience, or does He give him the opportunity to be patient?") very insightful and thought-provoking. What are your favorite moments from your least favorite movies?
In the movie "no strings attached" with ashton kutcher and natalie portman at the beginning younger versions of themselves are talking on a bench at summer camp they are talking about how weird each other are and all of a sudden the younger version of kutchers character ask if he can finger her and of course she says no. and then it fast forward to the next time they see each other. It is so incredibly awkward its funny. The movie is not that good but there are some funny moments like that threw out the movie. which are very memorable and funny.
In "Howard the Duck," there's an awkward almost-love scene between Howard and Lea ("Beverly") Thompson that is (thankfully) interrupted by several other characters before they can, ahem, do the deed. I bring this up because Lea Thompson never looked hotter than she did in this particular scene. If you've seen it, you know what I'm talking about.
In "Living Out Loud," with Holly Hunter and Queen Latifah, I always loved the scene where Holly goes to the nightclub and envisions herself as a 16-year-old. She dances as if she has rediscovered herself when she was most passionate and most fearless, and in the scene she dances with her former self, as if she is learning to love herself for the first time. Fantastic, touching scene, especially for us women who are growing older and realizing how little power we have over it.
