Have you ever won a "major award"?

Ever won a contest or a large sum of money?  If so, what and how did you win this "major award"?  If you won money, did you put it to good use or spend it on luxuries?

I've never won an award for entering a contest, but I did win a national award in AFJROTC, but I didn't get any money for it. If I won, say, the lottery, I would use the money to put myself through school for my doctorate and pay for my fiancee to do the same. Also I would pay to give her the wedding of her dreams. smile

Congratulations on your winning a national award in AFJROTC.  That's awesome!

Do I get credit for a leg shaped lamp as a "major award" because I've watched Jean Shephard's "A Christmas Story" four times?
A friend gave me three Jayne Cobb tee shirts recently...does that count?  And then there's my Serenity coffee mug I got for a past birthday where the ship materializes with hot coffee in the cup.  And then there's the title of Firefly Guru for the 30,000 points I got for answering Firefly trivia on a now defunct website through Facebook.
Oh, on a semi-serious note, I actually did get an award my senior year of high school for not missing a day of class in four years...we had grades 9-12 in senior high back in the 60s in Philly.

Wow, you must have liked going to school then.  Not missing a day of class in four years in high school?  Ho-ly, you didn't play hooky.. not even once?  Major accomplishment, Bob!

Rosie2010: I actually liked high school and in the turbulent '65-'69 era, being in school was often the safest place to be in Philadelphia.

WOW CWB, that is quite a accomplishment!  I've never heard of anyone not missing a class for 4 years straight.  If I can get my kids through a quarter of a year without being sick, I think they did well!
