How much televison do you allow your children to watch?

   How much televison do you allow your children to watch?
   
   I have young children that would watch TV all day if I allowed them. I only allow them 2 or 3 hours a day unless one of them is sick then they are allowed to watch TV all day. I have family and friends that think its too strict. What do you think?

   Mine get 30 min most days. Every so often they get dinner and a movie and they watch a full length movie. We do educational stuff- documentaries and such every once in awhile too. I'd rather them be out using their energy and imagination

      Neither do I. I can not stand to watch my children turn into zombies in front of the television. It is upsetting to me to see my little ones basically drool on themselves over the tv! Thank you for the response.

   No TV...no video games and no cell phones. They are "allowed" all the outside exercise they want. Walks of discovery on beach and in the woods. Reading and participating in sports are encouraged. We want our children to be healthy and to have a sense of what is really important in their lives. We want them to be able to make good choices and give them the opportunity to see all possibilities.
   
   When they are old enough to make their own choices then they can spend mindless hours in front of the tv or video screen if that lifestyle that they really want..........but we don't think they will!

      I think  that is wonderful that you do not want your children to sit down and become vegatables, but do you wonder if they will be teased because of it? Do you worry they may rebel agaisnt such strick rules?

      Oh shoot! I just deleted your comment!! I'm new so please forgive me! I was trying to write back that it is great that you involved your children in the choices as to wether or not to watch tv and such. And again I am so sorry! I feel awful!

   my daughter is allowed to watch 1-2 hours of tv a day.. most days she only watches about 1/2 hour she isn't that big into tv at all

      Oh how I wish my children would not be into th tv! It drives me crazy! I wouldn't mind them watching it if they didn't turn into to mindless zombies when its on.

      yes she absolutely keeps me and her father busy, but I wouldn't have it any other way! Her personality is HUGE, bigger tahn any TV show can justify
