I don't particularly like exaggerated silly comedy which is typical of a lot of sitcoms such as "Friends"
Witty quips can be funny as long as they are not sarcastic. Sarcasm is "the worst form of wit"!
Some of the slapstick and ridiculous sketches in the old silent movies from the twenties can be hilarious. I used to love watching Harold Llyod.
Farce, irony and black comedy are a good formula for a laugh. The British comedy "One Foot in the Grave" is a good example and depicts the unfortunate experiences of contrary pensioner Victor Meldrew. Victor is the victim of continuous misfortunes and ironical situations and the result is very funny and entertaining.
