My audience consists of readers, so whenever they write to me, I write a personal message back--no form letters. I also have two groups at Goodreads.com, and we discuss just about everything. Making connections like this is relatively easy.
STAYING connected is the hard part. I don't want to spam my readers every two days with "updates" to my writing or dates when my books are coming out, and I don't want to send an avalanche of e-mails the week before a book is about to drop. Too much hype can lead to disaster. There has to be some formula out there for the right mix of information and when to send it.
