   What are your favorite top five movies?
   
   I recently wrote a hub about my favorite top twenty movies and received a lot of comments.  This is my poll to see what Hubbers top movies might be but due to space and trying to pin down the answers I am limiting you to five.

   Had to come answer this because I love a good movie, but it will be tough.  In no particular order....
   
   Gone with the Wind
   Goodfellas
   Casablanca
   Apocalypse Now
   Midnight Cowboy
   
   I love movies that make me think about them over and over again.  I could add a bunch to this, and probably come back tomorrow and change my answers too.  I could also watch these over and over again and never get tired of them.

   Paper Man (2009)
   Antichrist (2009)
   Another Earth (2011)
   Blood Car (2007)
   
   These aren't going to help you for finding commonalities. Two of them at least most people probably won't have ever even heard of. I tend to go for the small-budget, independent stuff. Four of them probably aren't for everyone, but Another Earth is a fantastic movie I recommend for everyone.

    Godfather 1, 2, &3  I have spent a day watching this trilogy many times in my life. You can't see just one.
    Rooster Cogburn   Great childhood memories that consist of popcorn and my folks.
    Saving Private Ryan We should all know what our grandfathers fought for.
    Kill Bill Vol 1&2  Cause everybody was Kung Fu Fighting . . . .
    Wall E The story of what could be our future.

    I actually have a hard time picking five because it gives me so much choice. I can name my first and second favorites without question but finding anything beyond that is hard.
    
    1) Interview with the Vampire
    It is one of the few book-to-screen movies that actually did well in regards to the book. The acting and directing was very well done, and it is my favorite book of all time.
    
    2) Spirited Away
    The animation is beautifully painted and the story is wonderful. I think it, along with many of the Studio Ghibli films, is a movie that should be seen regardless of it being a "cartoon" or not.
    
    3) A Few Good Men
    Good script, amazing acting. Just all around a good movie. If I can't decide what movie I want to watch, this always ends up in my player somehow because it is just great.
    
    4) Mr. Holland's Opus
    It raises a really good point about the effect of arts in schools. "If you take all the arts out of schools, pretty soon kids will not have anything to read or write about!" In addition it is just a good movie.
    
    5) Phantom of the Opera
    I prefer the live stage production. But the movie, in my opinion was a very good rendition of the ALW musical. It had actors that were pleasing to the eye (an important factor in screen filming more so than on stage) who also had decent voices. Say what you will about the 2004 movie, but after having read the book and watched/heard several actors perform the roles, the movie is still good.

    Till....I see you're well aware that this is a difficult limitation.  I love hundreds of movies.  Just to simplify things, I'll choose 5 now, for the purpose of your question.....just so you know that on any given day, it could be 5 completely different movies.  "Favorite" is the word that makes it most difficult for me. 
    I mean, C'mon girlfriend....for 10 years, Butter Pecan was my FAVORITE ice cream.  Now I'm into Rocky Road.   Although I LOVE comedy (like that would surprise you)...I also like a good drama too.
    5. (Classic)  "Arsenic & Old Lace"
    4. "Crash"
    3. "Bachelor Party"
    2. "The Break-Up"
    1.  "Monster's Ball"
    I have dozens going through my head right now.....but like a menu with too many choices.....I had to choose!

       OH Dear!!!   CORRECTION!!   I did not mean "Bachelor Party!".........I meant  "THE HANGOVER"........I suppose one causes the other, but I had to clarify this.  I loved  "THE HANGOVER."   I don't even know if there is a movie called "Bachelor Party!"

    Of course any favorites list is always excruciating to work out - favorite guitar player, favorite food, favorite hub-writer . . . 'if I include this one, which other one is there no room for?'. Is it favorite because it's just that good, or is it a particularly influential/important film, is it special to me for some reason (a favorite of my youth or the 1st film I saw with my wife, etc). Setting all those concerns aside, just listing what comes to me as I sit here ~
    
    1. 'A Tale Of Two Cities' (1935 with Ronald Colman) - it's a perfect movie, from the small quiet love scenes to the epic storming of the Bastille, it's flawless.
    
    2. 'Taxi Driver' - an American masterpiece, hard to watch, but brilliant.
    
    3. 'Brazil' - love it, one sane man against a world buried under mad bureaucracy.
    
    4. 'Mysterious Island' - the Civil War, pirates, giant creatures, underwater cities, and Capt. Nemo . . . the perfect 10 year old boy movie.
    
    5. 'Talk Of The Town' - Cary Grant (a suspect hiding out) & Ronald Colman (a supreme court nomine) debating the role of the law in a free society, over a game of chess in front of a fireplace in a cottage where Jean Arthur is actually running the show, directed by George Stevens - c'mon!

    1. LadyHawke
    2. the Alien series (I like them all, especially the first)
    3. Places in the Heart
    4. Sabrina (the original version)
    5. Breakfast at Tiffany's (Audrey Hepburn, George Pepard)
    
    Coming in close behind would be the ones I can watch over and over in the background:
    
    * Star Wars (the whole series, especially Empire Strikes Back)
    * Superman (with Christopher Reeve)
    * The Sound of Music
    * Hamlet (B&W with Lawrence Olivier)
    * Toy Story (animation directed by Pete Doctor(sp?))
    * The Holy Grail (Monty Python--plebeian, but true)
    * Benny and Joon (brilliant Johnny Depp, as always)
    * Edward Scissorhands (Depp again)
    
    Other favorites that require full attention:
    * Rozencrantz and Gildenstern are Dead (starring everyone before they were anyone)
    * The Circus (very, very obscure--by Alexander Calder, inventor of the "mobile" art form--hanging stuff from strings that moves in air currents)
    * The Gold Rush (silent, Charlie Chaplin)
    * Lagaan (from Bollywood)
    * On Wings of Desire (foreign, German--just watch it, don't read a description of it first or it'll be ruined)
    * To Kill a Mockingbird
    
    I like dozens of "normal" movies, too, like Indiana Jones and stuff--I'm not all esoteric and totally weird--these movies just happen to be my favorites in a list such as this, "subject to change on a whim" as someone else said. I'm a huge movie fan.
