   What are some songs about food?
   
   Over the past little bit I have been composing a number of "songs about" hubs. At times those hubs tend to be about more serious subjects, so I decided to lighten the mood a bit. I plan on composing a hub on songs about food. I already have a few in mind, but I thought I would see if anyone was aware of any songs about food that they would like to share.

   Don't know, but perhaps songs by MEATLOAF would do.
   Maybe - Does Your Chewing Gum Lose it's Flavour - Lonnie Donegan
   Banana Boat Song - can't remeber who, was it Belafonte
   There was a song about meatballs :  On top of spaghetti,
   All covered with cheese,
   I lost my poor meatball,
   When somebody sneezed.can't remember title or peformer.

   My favorite is the little-known "Guacamole" with the chorus "Guacamole! Guacamole! We'll be making guacamole all night long!" It's about meeting a beautiful woman in the supermarket over the avocados, and admiring her, um, avocados.
   
   But is it really about food?
   
   There is, of course, the whole genre of bubble-gum pop rock, with songs like "Sugar Sugar." (Check out hits from Buddah Records.)
   
   There are, of course, place name songs that mention foods. Someone already mentioned Blueberry Hill. And, of course, there is the Beatles Strawberry Fields Forever. And Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds includes "tangerine trees and marmalade skies."
   
   But I wonder if you will really find any songs where the real topic is about food, rather than food being used as a symbol for sex, love, psychedelic experience, or perhaps patriotic fervor (as in Mom's apple pie - that must be in a song somewhere).
   
   I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

   First one that came to mind was Weezer's "Pork and Beans", even though it's not necessarily about the food.

   How about "Cheeseburger in Paradise" by Jimmy Buffet??? He also has a song about the seven deadly sins and one of the sins is Pizza.....not sure if that works or not!

   There's an old Cockney song in Britain called "Boiled Beef and Carrots" and another called "Bangers & Mash" about a man with an Italian wife longing for his mom's cooking instead of spaghetti and macaroni. There's a song called "Jellied Eels" written by Lionel Bart who wrote "Oliver."  It was recorded by Joe Brown and the Bruvvers.
   
   Funnily enough, most of the songs about food in Britain seem to be about Cockney food.  There is also "The Roast Beef of Old England" which was written by Henry Fielding, who wrote the novel "Tom Jones."  That song was apparently played on the Titanic at dinner time.
   
   While it isn't exactly about food, more about swallowing things, as a kid I always loved Burl Ives singing "There was an old woman who swallowed a fly."

      I remembered "Bangers & Mash" was Peter Sellers and Sophia Loren.  There was also "Food, Glorious Food" from "Oliver" and an American song called "Junk Food Junkie."
