What had the greater impact on Hollywood: the demise of Hays Code or advent of the blockbuster?

During the late 1960s and early 1970s, sweeping reforms brought cinema into a new age of Hollywood. With films like Bonnie and Clyde, Star Wars and Jaws making waves in the industry, did the demise of the Hays Code or the advent of the blockbuster have a greater impact on the way film developed and is run today? Hays Code meant no more restrictions - you could make what you want - and as a result a decrease in ingenuity; whilst the advent of the blockbuster brought with it multiplexes, visually-orientated narratives and 'the thrill of the ride' - a throwback to the cinema of attractions.
