   The problem isn't that the new doctor is young.  Its that David Tennant was so brilliant in the role, he would be a hard act for anyone to follow

   I'm not, but maybe that's just because I'm too old!  To be honest I didn't like David Tennant either - can't put my finger on why, because I liked Christopher Eccleston who's about the same age.
   
   I think it may be because I expect the Doctor to have a certain something - an air of confidence? A deeper seriousness, even if they're funny on the surface?  Even the light-hearted doctors had that - and David Tennant, didn't, IMO.  I can't imagine a very young doctor having it, either.

   Being a long time fan, I can say that getting used to a "new" doctor is always a bit of a tough thing. Especially if the last one was really good, which was the case with David Tennant. The first new doctor in the new series didn't do it for me, and I don't think he did it for the fans or the producers either—they say he brought a lot to the character, but you have to admit if they thought he brought so much why'd they get rid of him so soon?
   
   The new guy will take a bit of getting used to. But it's happened before. It will happen again. The show has been on the air in one form or another since the 60s. There have been over 700 episodes, and there have been 10 other doctors.
   
   David Tennant has also been one of the longest running Doctor's, so maybe we got a little spoiled...he was THAT good.

   My first Doctor was Eccleston. Adored him. Thought he was brilliant. It took me a while to warm up to Tennant, not because I thought he lacked talent, but because he wasn't myyyy doctor whiiiine. But, David Tennant was beautiful.
   
   Age doesn't really matter. Would I like an old Doctor, a la the first? Ehh. I don't know. Older? I love older actors. I'm going to try to keep my mind open.
   
   What matters isn't the age. It's the episodes and how they're written, and how he acts as a person.

   Ideally we would never be glad to see a Doctor leave the show. But the idea of a younger Doctor is becoming more important as we get away from his middle-aged appearance. What's the difference if he's 50 or 40? Or 40 or 30? What about 20? When he gets into his teens things are going to be real different. Then there is the Benjamin Button form when the Master ages him a whole bunch. There are some forms of the Doctor that I expect will alter the way the show conducts itself. I think each new Doctor is going to be really interesting. The new fans will catch on. The older fans all know this in some way. Variety is good.
