   whats the movie where the girl thinks her step mom is a murderer but in reality, she is the murderer
   
   she and her "sister" go around trying to prove that she killed her real mom but in the end its all in her head and turns out that the main girl had killed both her sister and her real mom in a fire years earlier. it was released in either '08 or '09

   That movie would be "Uninvited". Yep moms innocent, goes to show you can't trust step kids... crap i'm one of those.

   Actually, there are a number of films with the same title. So, to be specific:
   The Uninvited (2009) starring Emily Browning, David Strathairn, Arielle Kebbel, Don S. Davis // From IMDb: After the death of her invalid mother in a fire, teenager Anna tries to commit suicide and is sent to a mental institution for treatment. Ten months later, Anna still cannot remember what happened on the night her mother died. Her psychiatrist, Dr. Silberling, discharges her, saying that she has resolved her issues. Her father, a successful writer, brings her back home to an isolated mansion near the coast. Anna finds that her mother's former nurse, Rachel Summers, now is her stepmother. Anna reunites with her beloved sister, Alex, and learns that their father did not delivere the letters and CDs Alex sent her. As time moves on, Anna is haunted by ghosts and believes Rachel killed her mother. Alex and Anna decide to look for evidence to prove that Rachel is the murderer, leading to Anna discovering the truth about the fire in the boathouse.

   It's a remake of a Korean movie called A Tale of Two Sisters (2003).  The original is much better and uses the cliches of supernatural horror films from Korea as a smokescreen.  The remake tried to turn it into more of a slasher film (like the remake of Pulse a couple years earlier)
