I think reality television shows are another way to dumb down the population. I've seen a couple of them on Mtv, and NBC and in no way can I see how it is actual "reality". They are all mostly scripted, and people are prompted to say things in order to make drama. It just fills the viewers minds with impressions on how "reality" should be. But, shows like Orange County Choppers, Dirty Jobs and the like are real "reality" shows in my opinion. They have educational aspects to them unlike their "get drunk, party, spend millions, etc... counterparts.
The only Tv I watch is Discovery Channel, History Channel, Nat Geo, and Comedy central, oh and TBS for Conan!
