White Dwarf (1995 TV movie) starring Neal McDonough, Paul Winfield, Ele Keats, (Giuseppe) Joey Andrews, Roy Brocksmith, CCH Pounder, Kevin Brophy
IMDb synopsis: In a distant future, New York medical student Driscoll Rampart accomplishes his internship at Rusta, a rural planet that doesn't revolve around its axis and therefore is divided into contrasting halves of eternal day vs. eternal night. One is a Victorian-styled colony, the other a medieval kingdom. Both leave Rampart in a state of constant wonder, as he finds his way among humans and aliens, strange dreams and even stranger reality, a dark keep and a red sea, and more universal matters of war and peace, good and bad, love and hate and sickness and health.
IMDb review: The lead character is an aspiring doctor who takes his internship on an out-of-the way planet. His intention is to bring back quaint anecdotes that he can tell patients when he opens his money-making practice on Park Avenue. Rampart doesn't take his assignment seriously. After all, how much can a doctor learn on a backwoods planet? As time goes on, Rampart finds out much more than he expected as he runs into shapeshifters, immortal creatures and unorthodox medical procedures. Rampart must confront his own fears as he struggles to understand his new environment.
NOTE: This was a pilot for a series that unfortunately wasn't picked up.
