A Review of The Beach Boys Endless Summer Album
Many Well Known Hits
This double album by the Beach Boys was produced in 1974, but the songs are mostly from the 60's. In the US it came out as 2 albums but in the UK it comprised of 1 album with 10 songs on each side.
If you love the Beach Boys music you will like this one, it has many of their well known hits on it. The band had been through a commercially desert-like period for 7 years; then they brought this LP out and it was an immediate hit. Sales were more than 3 million copies.
The artwork on the cover is relevant to the flower-power era of 60's and 70's music and culture. The cover reflects what the Beach Boys were all about; California surf and sun, there's a wave in the background, while bearded, long-haired band members faces peer out from behind greenery and a few large flowers.
Most of the songs are by Brian Wilson and Mike Love. The band is well known for its use of vocal harmonies, you can hear this if you give them a listen. Some of the more well known ones which I like are: Surfer Girl, Surfin' U.S.A., Fun, Fun, Fun, I Get Around, California Girls and Good Vibrations.
Listening to short clips from the album recently I find their music to have a soothing quality to it. It is also mellow and allows for relaxed listening. In some ways it almost sounds tame compared to some of the music of the time, such as that of Jimi Hendrix, Deep Purple and the like.
Over 50 Years of Making Music
They have been making music for over fifty years, that's a memorable achievement. The Beach Boys made many songs about sun, surfing, cars and girls. The Beach Boys Endless Summer Album is an easy-listening album well worth owning.
