Bennie And The Jets by Elton John

Updated on September 14, 2012

Elton John And Goodbye Yellow Brick Road

The lyrics for Elton John's hit Bennie And The Jets from the album Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.

Goodbye Yellow Brick Road is arguably the best of Elton John's albums. This was originally a double album (LP) released in 1973 that includes a number of his best known earlier hits, which include Funeral For A Friend, Candle In The Wind, Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting and of course Bennie And The Jets.

The album was released while I was at university, and I can recall a number of occasions where a group of us sat around late into the night and just listened to what are now recognised as classic rock albums, like Goodbye Yellow Brick Road and Frampton Comes Alive.

I saw Elton John perform in concert in the late 1990s at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana. He put on a great solo show, just him and the piano, and he played for over 2 1/2 hours.

When he played the first chord of Bennie And The Jets, followed by a 5 second silence, everyone in the packed audience knew what song was coming next, and the whole concert was an amazing experience.

So do you know all the lyrics to Bennie And The Jets? Whether you do or not, I hope you will read on and learn more about this classic Elton John Hit.

Song Lyrics: Bennie And The Jets

Bennie And The Jets - Elton John from the album Goodbye Yellow Brick Road 1973

Written by Elton John and Bernie Taupin.

Hey kids, shake it loose together

The spotlight's hitting something

That's been known to change the weather

We'll kill the fatted calf tonight

So stick around

You're gonna hear electric music

Solid walls of sound

Say, Candy and Ronnie, have you seen them yet

But they're so spaced out

B-B-B-Bennie and the Jets

Oh but they're weird and they're wonderful

Oh Bennie, she's really keen

She's got electric boots

A mohair suit

You know I read it in a magazine

B-B-B-Bennie and the Jets

Hey kids, plug into the faithless

Maybe they're blinded

But Bennie makes them ageless

We shall survive, let us take ourselves along

Where we fight our parents out in the streets

To find who's right and who's wrong

Oh, Candy and Ronnie, have you seen them yet

But they're so spaced out

B-B-B-Bennie and the Jets

Oh but they're weird and they're wonderful

Oh Bennie, she's really keen

She's got electric boots

A mohair suit

You know I read it in a magazine

B-B-B-Bennie and the Jets

Bennie, Bennie and the Jets

Bennie, Bennie, Bennie, Bennie and the Jets

How could anyone who loves music not adore Elton? He is what I refer to as a "real" musician who can truly play, compose, and sing - not to mention his fun showmanship abilities! =D

Loved Elton John when I was a teen. One of my sisters had the Goodbye Yellow Brick Road album. If one of us had it, we didn't buy it, knowing we could listen anytime we wanted. Unfortunately that means now I have half of the music I used to enjoy. Thanks for the lyrics.
