3 day festival in the sunny sands of Indio, California

This festival occurs in April every year, in the sunny, warm sands of Coachella, California (which is right near Palm Springs). Don't let the relaxing desert scenery here fool you though, because this is one of rock's premiere events!

Headlining the three day event this year are The Strokes, Kings of Leon, Kanye West, The Black Keys, Arcade Fire, Duran Duran, Jimmy Eat World, and Lauryn Hill (formerly of the Fugees). There are a lot of alternative acts of yesteryear featured on this bill, like the Chemical Brothers, Interpol, and even Erykah Badhu, making it a great three day show to see if you grew up in the 90's.

Kid Rock

Tickets for the Born Free tour 2011

Kid Rock has morphed from one genre to another, but there are some stable elements that have made him a big contender in the rock world: genuine rock n' roll spirit, and a devotion to his fans. As other bands crumbled by the wayside of the early 2000s (remember Limp Bizkit?), Kid Rock stands with his head held high, with bigger hits and an even bigger tour. Kid Rock began his career in Detroit in the late 80's, starting as a rapper, then mixing in rock elements. His 1998 album Devil Without a Cause went on to RIAA Diamond status (that's over ten million copies), with hits "Bawitdaba," "Only God Knows Why," and "Cowboy." This was followed up with "American Badass" which sampled Metallica's "Sad But True" guitar hook. From there, Rock's career blossomed into new realms, as he performed with RUN-DMC, Aerosmith, and even Sheryl Crow. In the late 2000s, he had his biggest hit to date with "All Summer Long," followed by his hit album "Born Free" in 2010. The Born Free tour continues in 2011, so be sure to catch him live across the USA running through March.

The Big Four: Thrash Metal Bands Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax Invade Europe, US

Big Four concert tour - get your tickets!

The Big Four are a legendary group of thrash metal bands that pioneered the genre in the early 80's. Some members, like Dave Mustaine and Kerry King, even crossed over into the other bands (Mustaine was in Metallica, King was briefly in Megadeth). These four heavy metal icons are now touring Europe, and have a date announced in the USA.

Will we see this band perform in the States? Only time will tell, but the outlook is bright for a tour! Perhaps in 2012 we'll see a full fledged tour across the USA from all four bands. In the meantime, they've been hitting European countries to much avail from fans in Europe. Read about the tour:

Great lens! I love so many of these bands and would love to see them live. The only ones I've seen before from this list are New Kids on the Block, a couple years ago when they first started touring again...it was a dream come true after being a fan since I was like 6 or 7. The only concert I'm going to this year is U2 in July - I can't wait!
