Best Driving Songs - Music to Drive For...
The Best Songs for Driving
The best driving songs help you relax and concentrate at the same time, make the drive go by faster, and make you not care about the moron in front of you driving 10 mph under the speed limit with no way to pass. Make sure to pick the right music though 'cause bad driving songs can put you on edge or make you fall asleep at the wheel. I think the best driving music is hard rock and heavy metal. It has a good beat that helps you concentrate and an edge to help you stay awake but relaxed. The next time you drive, try it and see what I mean. I love listening to music when I'm driving. Here is a list of my top 10 driving songs...
Green Manalishi - Judas Priest
My all time favorite driving song is Green Manalishi by Judas Priest. The album version is a little lame sounding but the live version (i.e. Unleashed In the East, Dallas in 1986, etc) just flat rips. This is a very high energy song and is perfect for driving fast through a twisty canyon with a good road - like Walker Canyon on US 395 between Bishop and Reno.
Burn - Deep Purple
Deep Purple's Burn is another high energy song that sounds great when driving fast or burning rubber. Both the studio and live versions of Burn sound equally good. If you get Burn on the Very Best of Deep Purple CD you also get Highway Star, Smoke on the Water, and Stormbringer - three more excellent driving songs by Deep Purple.
Highway Star - Metal Church
With a name like Highway Star it has to be a good driving song... This is actually a cover of a Deep Purple song but I like the Metal Church version better than the original - more intense and higher energy. Highway Star is on the self titled Metal Church CD. Other good driving songs on this CD are Metal Church and Gods of Wrath.
Hook In Mouth - Megadeath
Another song that sounds better in the live version. Megadeath is very under-rated band and they have a LOT of killer songs that are excellent driving music.
Let There Be Rock - AC/DC
AC/DC has many songs that make excellent driving music, but not too many are suitable for a G-rated lens. Let There Be Rock is one that is, and it rips...
Paranoid - Black Sabbath
Before I heard Black Sabbath for the first time I was into pop music. Sabbath got me started listening to heavy metal and now I can't stand pop music any more. Paranoid is a great driving song and the way I drive some times I have reason to be paranoid...
All We Are - Warlock
It's rare to find a metal band with a female singer - even rarer to find one where said female singer can belt out the songs as strongly as Doro Pesch does. Warlock is that band. All We Are has a little bit of a pop sound to it but still lots of energy and the Triumph & Agony CD has lots of good music on it.
Voodoo - Black Sabbath
After Ozzy Osbourne quit Black Sabbath, they hired Ronnie James Dio (one of the best voices in metal ever - second only to Rob Halford IMO) as their singer. Heaven and Hell was a better album than Mob Rules, but Mob Rules had Voodoo - one of my favorite driving songs.
Outlaw - Riot
Let It Go - Def Leppard
Def Leppard could have been one of the great hard rock bands... High and Dry totally kicked @$$ and established Def Leppard as a premier hard rock band. Several songs from the album make excellent driving music, with the best driving song being Let It Go. Unfortunately the band didn't like the hard rock labor, and their next few albums regressed from "mainstream" to pop to "lame stream." What a waste of talent... High and Dry is still a great hard rock album though, and worth adding to your music library.
The Best Driving Music is Heavy Metal - OK, so hard rock works for me too...
Is Heavy Metal the Best Driving Music?
Honorable Mention - I've got a Bad Habit...
No list of best driving songs would be complete without Bad Habit by offspring...
