Best Easter Movies

Movies for the Easter Season

The Easter season has not traditionally been a great season for holiday-themed movies. The Best Easter Movies lens will take a look at some of the finest movies to enjoy during the Easter Season.

These movies, including "Jesus of Nazareth," "The Ten Commandments," "Passion of the Christ" and "Jesus" as well as newer and less religious Easter movies including "VeggieTales" and "Peanuts" films are good choices for Easter entertainment.

The Easter movies are divided into two categories: religious movies that feature the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and more light-hearted comedies, musicals and animated Easter films.

Religious Easter Movies

Religious Movies for Easter

In past decades, Easter movies were traditionally very spiritual religious movies with strong Judea-Christian themes. The 1956 classic "The Ten Commandments" with Charlton Heston and Yul Brynner has been the perennial television choice for the Easter season for more than 50 years.

Movies such as "Passion of the Christ" starring Jim Caviezel and Monica Bellucci, directed by Mel Gibson and "Jesus of Nazareth" with Robert Powell, Olivia Hussey, Laurence Olivier, James Mason, Anne Bancroft, and Stacy Keach tell the story of Jesus and are ideal Easter viewing.

The following films have strong religious elements for Easter.
