Best Teen TV Shows
Great TV Shows For Teens
There are so many TV shows out there now and not enough time to watch them all. So how do we know which are the good ones?
So I've decided to hand pick some of my favourite guilty pleasures for you to enjoy!
The shows I have picked are ones that I find are interesting and are engaging to watch. They are not by all means the only great teen TV shows to watch! Feel free to leave suggestions of shows that you enjoy in the comments section below!
Pretty Little Liars
The show starts of with the mystery of Allison Dilaurentis' (Sasha Pieterse) murder. Her four best friends Aria Montgomery (Lucy Hale), Spencer hastings (Troian Bellisario), Hanna Marin (Ashley Benson) and Emily Fields (Shay Mitchell) have split apart after her death, as she was the one who 'held' the group together. But when the four girl's start receiving mysterious texts and threats from someone who claims to be "A" and seemingly knows all the secrets that only Allison knew, what happens?
Pretty Little Liars must be one of the most popular teen TV shows around, and for good reason. With it's mysterious plot lines, relatable characters and amazing cast, why wouldn't it be? What I love most about the show is that it keeps you on your toes, just when you thought that you knew what was going to happen, BAM! The show throws another twist in!
What I think really keeps the show going is the question of 'Who is A?' and 'Who Killed Allison?' However even though the answer to one of those questions was answered in the Season 2 finale, I'm still extremely excited for the show to return. There are just so many tales left to be told, and the main cast of Lucy, Ashley , Shay and Torian are an extremely talented cast. Along side the main mysteries of the show, each of the girl's have their own dilemmas. Aria is in love with her teacher, Hanna is extremely misunderstood, Emily is struggling with her sexuality and Spencer just wants to be perfect. Each of the girls has such an intriguing background and story which just makers the show even more relatable.
The show is based on the hit book series "Pretty Little Liars" writted by Sara Shepard.
Pretty Little Liars has had 2 full seasons so far, and the third is beginning on the 5th June.

The Lying Game
The Lying Game is the sister show of Pretty Little Liars, having also been based on a book series written by Sara Shepard.
The Lying Game follows the story of two twin sisters whom were separated and have found each other. Sutton Mercer (Alexandra Chando) is one of the twins whom was adopted by a rich family and has a seemingly perfect life with her loving family, many friends and popularity. Emma Becker (Alexandra Chando) on the other hand is the twin whom is in the Las Vegas foster care system with a horrible adoptive family. When she is accused of a theft that she is innocent of, she runs away to Sutton for help. Sutton than asks Emma to take her place in her life while she searches for their birth mother.
But what happens when everybody prefers Emma to Sutton? What will happen when she comes back to her life?
What I think is one of the best parts of The Lying Game is the strong feelings you have for the characters. You can't help but love Emma and hate Sutton! Another really great aspect of it is the mystery. Like Pretty Little Liars, The Lying Game is a story that has a central mystery. Who is their mother? And why was their birth and adoption such a mystery?
The Lying Game stars the gorgeous and talented Alexandra Chando as both Emma and Sutton. I think her excellent portrayal of both characters makes the show very engaging. This is a show I would definitely recommend!
The Lying Game ran for one and a half seasons but sadly has been cancelled.

The Vampire Diaries
It was inevitable that The Vampire Diaries would end up in here! A lot of you would have avoided the show, thinking that the disaster of Twilight has ruined teenage vampires forever, however that is not the case! From a first glance The Vampire Diaries might seem like a copy of Twilight, but it is a much more fast paced and engaging show. I agree that some parts of the two teen phenomenons cross, but that doesn't make The Vampire Diaries a bad show! In fact, out of all of the shows on this list, this is the one that for me is the most engaging and interesting!
The Vampire Diaries follows the story of Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev). At the beginning of the story Elena has just lost her parents and is now attempting to reinvent her life and not be the 'girl who lost her parents.' From there, she crosses paths with Stefan Salvatore(Paul Wesley), who has returned to Mystic Falls, the invented town of the story. Then along comes his brother, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) whom causes trouble around the peaceful town and huge annoyance to Stefan and Elena.
The story has progressed so much since then, and to even tell the happenings of one episode would take pages! Yes, when I mean this show is fast paced, it is fast paced. The story line progresses and has new twists and turns before you can figure out how to say "Nina Constantinova Dobreva." But that's what is the best part of the show! New and interesting storylines are what makes the show so engaging! And the characters are all so well portrayed by the cast. Such as Ian Somerhalder, whom to be is the one that stands out in the show. He portrays Damon Salvatore, whom at the beginning is the 'evil brother.' His sarcastic jokes and wit keep the show a lot more interesting,
Even the supporting cast is extremely engaging too, such as Candice Accola as Caroline Forbes, Michael Trevino as Tyler Lockwood and Matt Davis as Alaric Saltzman.
What is so amazing about this show is the progress it has made, not only in the plot line but also in the characters. I think that's something that any good show should have! The show might seem a little cliche at first, but it has grown a lot since then and season 2 and 3 are huge improvements from the initial one. Like I mentioned before the actors/actresses are amazing, they have often led me to tears, especially during the end of season 3!
The Vampire Diaries is based on the novels by L.J Smith published in 1991.
The Vampire Diaries has had 3 full seasons so far and has been renewed for a fourth.

The Secret Circle
The Secret Circle is the sister show to The Vampire Diaries, and is also based on a novel series written by L.J Smith.
The Secret Circle follows the story of Cassie Blake (Britt Robertson). Her mother was just killed in an 'mysterious accident' and she is now sent to live with her grandmother in the fictional town of Chance Harbour. Here is where she meets 5 other teenagers, who lead her to discover that like them, she is a witch. The 'circle' of witches go through many disastrous events with their magic!
The show started off pretty slow, but about halfway through the season it does pick up and become a lot more interesting! I think the variety of characters in the circle from the strong headed Cassie, to the mean and snarky Faye Chamberlain (Pheobe Tonkin) makes the show an interesting one. The relationships that occur between the characters are sweet and touching and it is probably the highlight of the show.
Despite the main characters all being witches, I think that they are very relatable to teenagers today, and that just makes the show a lot more realistic. Also what I really like about this show, is that the parents get a big part to play, in fact the parents are actually extremely manipulative and villainous which I think is a great twist.
I think that this is a great teen show, however CW apparently does not agree with me as it was not renewed for a second season. Therefore, unless you think that you really want to watch the show, I probably wouldn't recommend you to start watching as there will he ends left untied.

New Girl is a new comedy show starring Zooey Deschanel who plays Jess, the quirky girl who just broke up with her boyfriend and moved in with three guys. It is a cute, funny little show that is a great laugh!
What I love most about this show is probably Zooey and the character 'Schmidt' played by Max Greenfield. Both these characters are so light hearted, bubbly and hilarious!
This show isn't like any of the above which are dramas and have complicated plot lines. Each episode is like a snapshot, much like The Simpsons. It is a funny show and I recommend to everyone!
Also the theme song is really rather catchy!

America's Next Top Model
This is probably the only reality show I watch, and yes it is overly dramatic at times, but it's reality TV what do you expect?
What I really like about this show is how it progresses. There have been 18 cycles of America's Next Top Model now and it has changed so much since the beginning! However that could be a good or bad thing, you can decide for yourself. However I feel that it is changing along with the modeling industry and giving the contestants much more opportunities and it makes for good TV! I get so attached to the contestants as well, which doesn't turn out so great for me as the people I support never seem to win! So I get pretty emotional!
The only downsides to ANTM is the new judges shake-up and also the bias of the show.
ANTM recently fired the two 'Jays' and Nigel Barker whom have been with the show from almost the beginning. And although every show needs change they are such a huge part of the show, however we'll have to see how the new judges do!
Also the show has known to the very bias. Former judge on ANTM Janice Dickinson said that the judges don't decide on the winner, Covergirl does. Also contestants on the show such as Catherine Thomas from Cycle 18: British Invasion has pointed out that the judges are often biased towards certain girls and it seems that the producers 'sabotage' certain girls to get them eliminated.
But despite all it's flaws, I still keep watching, because it's an addictive show! And I think that that's what a good show should be!

So I'll be the first to admit that I'm not a huge fan of Glee, but it's success is not to be denied among teens.
Glee is a musical drama following teenagers at the fictional McKinley high school. The jocks, the nerds, the cheerleaders and the outcasts combine to create a 'glee' club where they all connects and express their feelings through song and dance.
What makes Glee so popular I feel is the variety of characters, I've said this before but you can really connect to the characters on a personal level here. Also the popular music also brings along fans, many of their cover are amazing and whilst I'm not a fan I can't deny that this cast is extremely talented!
One of the best characters I feel is Britney S. Pierce portrayed by Heather Morris. Her idiotic and cute statements really liven up the show! She is the funniest character on there and I feel the show would be rather bland without her. Also Sue Sylvester portrayed by Jane Lynch is extremely funny with her antics against Will Schuester (Matthew Morris) and the Glee club! The show would lose along of it's funniness without her.
What I dislike most about Glee is the main character Rachel Berry. I think that Lea Michele is an extremely talented singer and actress but I don't like the way the character acts as controlling, demanding and self absorbed. However that is only a minor fault in the show, and there are many "gleeks" out there that will surely contradict the way I feel!
I think that Glee is a huge success for a reason, which is that it is a likable show! It has great music along with funny characters and plot lines, so I'm sure it will appeal to many teens out there!
Glee has run for three full seasons, and the fourth season is in progress which will feature a completely new main cast.
