Updated on November 25, 2011

Test Your Billboard Hot 100 Music Trivia Knowledge

I love music trivia. I grew up listening to Casey Kasem countdown the American Top 40, sprinkled with random bits of trivia about the songs, artists, and their time on the Billboard Hot 100.

This lens focuses on the songs and artists who hold longest/shortest records in Billboard Hot 100 history.

More On The Answers - The Short Of It

1) Q was never a charting song. The artists who performed the actual Billboard Hot 100 songs with the shortest title are: “3” by Britney Spears, “7” by Prince, “O” by Omarion, and “X” by Xzibit.

2) Billboard’s shortest number one single was “Stay” by Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs. Its running time is 1:37.

3) The shortest single to enter the Billboard Hot 100 was “Little Boxes” by the Womenfolk. It peaked at eighty-three and its shortest version was :39.

4) The two acts with the shortest names were M, who performed “Pop Muzik” and Q, who performed “Dancin’ Man”.

More On The Answers - The Long Of It

1) The longest title was 41 words - "Medley: Intro 'Venus'/Sugar Sugar/No Reply/I'll Be Back/Drive My Car/Do You Want to Know a Secret/We Can Work It Out/I Should Have Known Better/Nowhere Man/You're Going to Lose That Girl/Stars on 45" by Stars on 45. The Billboard Hot 100 subsequently shortened all medley titles to the first few words.

2) “November Rain” by Guns N’ Roses holds the record for the longest Billboard Top Ten Single. It clocks in at 8:57.

3) The Mormon Tabernacle Choir saw their version of “The Battle Hymn Of The Republic” enter the Billboard Hot 100. At the time, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir had 320 members.

The largest act to chart on the Hot 100 is the 320-person Mormon Tabernacle Choir, whose version of "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" reached number thirteen in 1959.
