Famously known for the words he uttered in the film ‘Terminator,’ “I’ll be back,” Arnold Schwarzenegger is an icon star to be reckoned. This is not only attributed to his body-built body but also his funny side.

If lifting an elevator above the head, and holding a man’s leg (weighing between 60-65kg) with one hand on air is something to go by then it is something to reckon. This is one man I wouldn’t like to be on the wrong side with for all the wrong reasons unless my bones are made of steel and skin of a buffalo’s hide. In any case, there is a history behind his muscular body, and successful career as an actor.

Arnold was born in 1947 in Thal, Austria. He was raised up by strict Roman Catholic parents. At the age of 18 as was required at that period in Austria, he joined the army for one year. Later, he studied Marketing course for two years at the University of Munich.

Despite the fact Arnold’s favourite sport being football, he decided to concentrate on his new-found sport, bodybuilding. He began lifting weights at the age of 15. At the age of 20 he won Mr. Universe Title. He became the youngest man to ever win this title.

At the invitation of Joe Weider, a muscular entrepreneur, he studied Business and Economics at the University of Wisconsin, U.S.A. Afterwards he was granted the rights of a U.S. citizen.

While in the U.S he won five Mr. Universe titles and seven Mr. Olympic titles. This saw him shortly retiring from the sport, his eyes set on Hollywood. In fact, his seeing the future of working at Hollywood began while still in Austria.

His first acting career was starring in low-budget films, the likes of ‘Hercules in New York’ (1968).

His break came in when he was awarded in 1977 for Golden Globe for New Male Star of the Year for the comedy movie he starred, ‘Stay Hungry’ (1976). Nevertheless, the major break which led to his fame worldwide was when he starred in ‘Conan the Barbarian’ under the pseudonym, Conan.

Arnold rise to fame was instant, but ultimately he rose to the ranks of the likes of Sylvester Stallone, Chuck Norris, Bruce Willis and Jean Claude. His most successful (blockbuster) movies are: terminator (1984), Commando (1985), Predator (1987), The Running Man (1987), Raw Deal (1986), Red Heat (1988) and True Lies.

As stated, Arnold has also acted in light-hearted films or in lighter roles such as: twins, Jingle All The Way (1996), Junior (1994) and Kindergarten Cop.

A Republican, Arnold was first elected as Governor of California on October 7, 2003. He was elected in special recall election. He replaced Governor Gray Davis. He was then elected for a second term (full-term) on November 7, 2006 as Governor of California, and sworn in for the second-term on January 5, 2007. He served California as the 38th governor (2003-2011).

In 2011, Arnold and his wife, Maria Shriver separated after 25 years of living together. From their relationship they had four children. As of date, they have not yet come to a decision whether they will attempt to resolve their broken relationship or go for a divorce.

Apart from being a professional athlete, actor and a politician, he is also a writer, investor, businessman and a philanthropist. He has written various books and articles on the sport. Truly, Arnold has given back to the society as he serves and/or supports various causes all over the world.

He has also worked under George H.W. Bush as Chairman of the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports and under Governor Pete Wilson as Chairman of the California Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports.
