All 20 Songs on the Blue Jasmine Soundtrack Including Rogers and Hart's "Blue Moon" Song by Conal Fowkes
Director Woody Allen
With blue in the title of Woody Allen's latest film, what's more fitting than for the veteran director to include a couple of blues songs from Louis Armstrong and King Oliver on the Blue Jasmine Soundtrack. Produced by Sony Classics, the album is classic with a wonderful mix of jazz and blues standards. Rogers and Hart's classic "Blue Moon" was revamped for Allen by artist Conal Fowkes to serve as a musical theme for the film.
Haven't heard yet if the score by Christopher Lennertz will be released separately or with the music in the movie. But in the meantime many of the songs are available as individual song downloads including songs by No one, Lizzie Miles & Sharkey's Kings of Dixieland and the Mezzrow-Bechet Septet.
While Woody Allen is forever synonymous with capturing the romance of Manhattan, in the last few years he's taken us on the cinematic equivalent of a Grand Tour through Rome, Paris and Barcelona. For his latest movie he's returned to the U.S. filming the drama Blue Jasmine in both San Francisco and New York.
Although I enjoy Woody Allen's comedies, his dramas are always wicked smart, full of acute observations, interesting stories and are wonderfully cast. For Blue Jasmine, Cate Blanchett takes the helm along with Alec Baldwin, Bobby Cannavale, Louis C.K., Andrew Dice Clay, Sally Hawkins, Peter Sarsgaard and Michael Stuhlbarg.
Now in his late 70s, Allen has worked out a regular production schedule that suits his sensibilities, one that results in writing and directing about one movie a year. What many people many not realize is the woman behind the man that helps raise funds for Allen's artistic efforts is his sister Letty Aronson.
Like other Allen movies, Blue Jasmine is starting with a relatively limited release, opening first in New York and San Francisco starting on July 26, 2013. Hoping to pick up word of mouth and buzz, the movie is slowly building momentum with a conservative roll-out into 60 more theaters this week. It's such a brilliant way to mark a release appealing to mature, adult audiences who might normally wait for such a movie to come out on DVD or Netflix and is similar to how Midnight in Paris was marketed. In the meantime, the movie is garnering positive critical reviews.

Along with the lovely Cate Blanchett, two comedians who were thrilled to be performing in a Woody Allen film is hot comedian Louis C.K. and someone you'd never guess who hasn't been around for quite some time -- Andrew Dice Clay. For more on that story, click here.
