It was October 1986, and Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band were playing in Toronto at Maple Leaf Gardens on Friday the 24th, and Saturday the 25th. I so wanted to go but was unable to get tickets to either show. As soon as the concert was announced and when the tickets went on sale, both shows were immediately sold out.

My step-brother knew that I was a little disappointed in not being able to go to the concert and he and his girlfriend invited me to go to Rock & Roll Heaven, a Toronto nightclub, on the Friday night with a few friends. I said I'd go and jokingly said, "My mission will be to meet someone at the bar who has an extra ticket to Seger's concert on Saturday night." Bruce and his girlfriend Jackie laughed and wished me good luck.

Around 11:30 or so at the bar I see a group of people walking in and among them is this tall dark handsome guy that immediately caught my eye. He'd walked up to the bar to grab drinks for him and his friends and I suppose I caught his eye. I don't really know what struck me that night but I had to find out if he was single or not, so when I saw that he had gone to the washroom I went up to one of his friends and asked him. His friend Bob who introduced himself to me introduced me to Al.

We got to talking and I found out they'd just come from seeing Bob Seger. How ironic is that? I didn't get to go to see Seger after all but met my soul mate that night on October 24th, 1986. We dated and were married on November 28th, 1987.

Bob Seger may have had a little to do with what happened that magical night when Al and I met. We're both big Seger fans but to this day we've not been able to get to one of his shows together. We do hope to unless of course Bob stops touring.

Here are a few songs if you'd like to rock along with me.

Thanks for visiting today, and let me know in the comment section if you too are a Seger fan.

Wonderful story. Only saw Seger in concert once -- back in the mid-1980s. But I have some of his music in the car that I blast every now and then!

That's so awesome, I love hearing the story. I didn't know that Bob Seger was involved, but it doesn't surprise me, lol. Fate is an amazing thing!
