Celebrity Wardrobe Malfunctions

Updated on April 30, 2012

Celebrity wardrobe malfunctions are rare but always bring plenty of attention to the celeb involved. Millions of people watch live television, and most of the time events pass with nothing crazy. However, some of the most memorable moments from the past history of live events shown on television have been involving celebrities and their wardrobe revealing way too much.

Live television can be quite unpredictable and over time it has been more and more insane, with many censors not able to protect younger viewers from seeing nudity, and much more. Some of the more memorable events happened during sporting events and contests, and they have been shocking, and even laughable at times.

Courtesy of Naked Celeb Truth, we present several celebrity wardrobe malfunctions!

More Celebrity Wardrobe Malfunctions

There's been plenty of celebrity wardrobe malfunctions throughout the history of live televised events. Now with the constant filming of public events via cell phone cameras and other gadgets, as well as the use of YouTube, it seems hard for celebs to escape.

Other notable celebs to have their outfits reveal more than they intended include Elizabeth Hurley, Jessica Alba, Jessica Simpson, Anna Nicole Smith, Tara Reid, Keira Knightley and Amy Smart.

Celebrity malfunctions will continue to happen on a frequent basis, and the aforementioned are just a sampling of things that have gone awry. When watching live television, always keep eyes peeled because something just might pop out!

Taylor Swift Wardrobe Malfunction

Recently Taylor Swift had a wardrobe malfunction at a concert. The beloved "Mean" singer stepped in front of a fan, and her skirt blew up making her look a bit like Marilyn Monroe. She was wearing some type of nude undergarment like Spanx under her purple, feminine dress. Luckily for her, she had planned ahead, so she managed to preserve her modesty during the untimely gust of wind.

Nobody was offended by the Taylor Swift wardrobe malfunction.

Nicki Minaj GMA Nip Slip

Nicki Minaj had an infamous nip slip while performing live on Good Morning America. The singer was really giving the audience a stellar performance when one of her breasts popped out of her top. The incident ended in ABC issuing an official apology for anybody who was offended by seeing a bit too much of one of their favorite singers.

Did you see the Nicki Minaj nip slip? Did it offend you? Are you surprised that the censors did not catch it? If you missed it, check it out here.

Janet Jackson's Super Bowl Wardrobe Malfunction

The most famous of wardrobe problems happened during the biggest sporting event in 2004, Super Bowl XXX. During a live duet with singer Justin Timberlake, a nipple flash was shown, and immediately became the talk of the event. The malfunction would create a nightmare for censors, as a fully exposed nipple was on screen for quite sometime.

The mistake cost CBS plenty of money in fines and also caused quite a controversy. It may have even helped make the term "wardrobe malfunction" a more common phrase in today's language. Basically Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake "set the stage" for these celebrity oops events!

Hip hop star Lil Kim

Lil Kim Wardrobe Malfunction on 'DWTS'

Even though the censors have been on guard since 2004's mishap, that doesn't stop live television from happening as millions of viewers found out on a recent episode of Dancing With The Stars. Hip Hop queen Lil' Kim let the world see a bit too much dancing a classic 50's style dance, as her top revealed far too much. Many of the celeb dancers go for skimpy costumes and it cause quite a commotion as the female rap star bared a bit of breast. Lil Kim didn't end up winning in terms of the mirrorball trophy, but likely scored many new admirers with this malfunction!

TV and Movie Star Katherine Heigl

Celeb Wardrobe Malfunctions at Awards Shows

Many are quick to cite 2004 as the year that wardrobe started to fail, but let's not forget that in 2001 during the broadcast of the National Television Awards, Judy Finnigan's bra flashed a global audience, creating quite the stir. The moment even won an award for funniest television moment in over three decades.

"Grey's Anatomy" and movie star, Katherine Heigl, had her own top problems during an awards show. Katherine was accepting the Female Star of the Year Award at ShoWest on stage with Billy Bush. One of the straps on her red dress came undone and her left breast was nearly exposed on live television. Heigl managed to catch the major oops, and Billy Bush was gentleman enough to hold the strap up behind her to keep things from being revealed.

Sports Celeb Wardrobe Malfunctions

Another live television moment was made unsettling when live during a Winter Olympic trial run which saw a UK bobsledder split their pants stretching before a ride, giving a full moon to a global television audience. While this was not quite as publicized as some other celebrity moments, it was on such a grand scale that it had to be mentioned here.

While the United States has had some major malfunctions, one of the more embarrassing acts happened on live Italian television. During a sports talk show, Italian Model Marika Fruscio exposed her right nipple to the world, and seemed to not notice, but her co-anchor sure seemed to notice, again and again.

Nicole Scherzinger of Pussycat Dolls

Nicole Scherzinger X-Factor Malfunction

Another live moment happened moments before an X Factor performance in front of a live British television audience when Nicole Scherzinger (Pussycat Dolls) found a major tear in her wardrobe with the whole world watching.

The tear was near her crotch, making for some panicked moments before her scheduled performance, and made for quite the view for the home audience. It makes her "Dancing With the Stars" and Pussycat Dolls music video outfits seem tame in comparison!

Who do you think has had the worst celebrity wardrobe malfunction of all time? Was it Janet Jackson's Super Bowl show, or someone else? Feel free to share your opinions below!

It seems to me that most of these "wardrobe malfunctions" are planned to get the most publicity possible ... maybe I'm being too cynical ... having suffered one myself a few years back at a high school dance maybe I should be more understanding!!!

Janet Jackson's wardrobe malfunction was the most controversial and cause the most severe penalties levied by the FCC( CBS was fined $50,000 and Janet had to appear before a Congressional panel.

It was definitely more than a slap on the wrist!...and now knows that the Super Bowl is a famil friendly telecast and any publicity stunts will no.t be tolerated by the Fedral Communications Commission under any circumstances
